think I read he's training out in Arizona. Would think he could stop by for this though. Maybe he had a personal thing during this time.

Dalton babies his receivers

Geoff HobsonEditorBengals.comFollow Me (http://twitter.com/GeoffHobsonCin) Blog (http://blogs.bengals.com/category/hobsons-choice/)

Mohamed Sanu (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/mohamed-sanu/2ec826da-ce44-498c-8d77-174bbd664114/) is among the receivers who made the trip to Dallas to throw for a few days with quarterbackAndy Dalton (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/andy-dalton/9378c4ed-938c-434c-929d-4d45fe252101/).

Call it Camp Noah.

In the week they welcomed their first born, the Daltons hosted the Bengals wide receivers Monday for a barbecue dinner after a morning throwing session in Dallas.

“I’ve got a rock star for a wife,’ said quarterback Andy Dalton after the workout at Texas Christian. “It’s got to be less than a week (after the birth) and the guys came in.

“It’s a good time. (Training camp is) coming up pretty fast.”

Noah Andrew arrived almost as fast, beating his July 4 due date by four days for a June 30 arrival. Just in time to meet some of his dad’s closest co-workers. Three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Green (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/aj-green/d1e7b054-2722-4a10-9dad-687267489bd5/) led a contingent of Marvin Jones (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/marvin-jones/1e8a8414-cc83-4d5e-a61a-9236316539e4/), Mohamed Sanu, Brandon Tate (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/brandon-tate/56768822-7e1d-43fb-94da-5c49f43032b5/), Ryan Whalen (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/ryan-whalen/e84aa0ea-6783-4841-a7a0-9394d3be48cc/), and Cobi Hamilton (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/cobi-hamilton/3cc62aae-44fc-4ba3-b297-07ee403ba34a/) in the hopes it is the birth of a breakout season for the Bengals passing game.

With tight ends Jermaine Gresham (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/jermaine-gresham/66ed6d24-c4c8-45c3-83d8-438594e91723/) and Tyler Eifert (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/tyler-eifert/36fdf348-c00c-44bb-bc76-2833910b8553/) still apparently rehabbing, the wide receivers had Dalton all to themselves.

Camp Noah comes almost at the halfway point of the five-week layoff between spring practice and the first practice of training camp, a 3 p.m. workout set for July 24 at Paul Brown Stadium.

“It works out really well. We’ve been gone about two and a half weeks and we get back in about two more weeks,” Dalton said. “I think it shows how much these guys are willing to work. It’s a shorter break this year and guys are all over the place doing different things, but we’re going to get some work in here for a couple of days.”

After another morning workout, Tuesday they head their separate ways until they report 15 days later on July 23. More than anything, it’s an opportunity to bond over a baby and ribs.

“It’s just a chance to work on the little things before we get it going again,” Dalton said. “Working on the routes, doing some of the things that need to get better.”

July 24th can't get here fast enough!

07-07-2014, 08:14 PM
Isn't this the first year Green has been in Texas for these sessions? Someone upthread mentioned that Green wasn't there last year, but if memory serves he wasn't there the year before either. Could be wrong on that, though. Also, I wonder if a late round roookie like James Wright maybe didn't even get an invite? If I was a guy battling for one of the last receiver slots, I think I would trespass onto the property if that's what it took. Guys like Hamilton and Whalen clearly aren't fools. Leave no stone unturned.

07-07-2014, 08:17 PM
yea this is the first time Green has been there. Gresham's done some in the past, but he's recovering at the moment. As is Eifert.

I would think everyone got an invite, but maybe not everyone could make it.

Two questions:
1) Why is the hashtag BegnalsatTCU? What exactly is a Begnal?
2) Did Andy grow or did AJ shrink? They're about the same height in the pic and Andy is taller than everyone except maybe AJ...

Haha... it is good to see them working hard together in the offseason. Let's hope this group can be something special.

haha looks like AJ's knees are bent and Dalton's aren't.

In general, they're only about an inch and a half apart in height.

Bonding with a ball

Posted 2 hours ago

Geoff HobsonEditorBengals.com

Marvin Jones (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/marvin-jones/1e8a8414-cc83-4d5e-a61a-9236316539e4/): “I’m not going to go out and just say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m definitely going to the Pro Bowl. I’m going to be an elite receiver.' I do believe that in my heart."
Fresh off a bonding and ball session at the Texas home of their quarterback, the Bengals wide receivers are energized about a training camp that opens two weeks from Thursday at Paul Brown Stadium in a 3 p.m. practice.
Shortly after they flew out of Dallas this week, three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Green (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/aj-green/d1e7b054-2722-4a10-9dad-687267489bd5/) was named the league’s ninth best player in an NFL Network survey. Marvin Jones, who starts opposite him after last year’s breakout 10-TD season, is speaking softly but confidently about that next level.
“I’m not going to go out and just say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m definitely going to the Pro Bowl. I’m going to be an elite receiver,’’ Jones said. “I do believe that in my heart. But I’m not going to go out there and say it. I’m going to say it by what I do on the field. What I do on the field, it can’t be denied if I just take care of my opportunities. Whether it’s 15 targets, six targets or three targets. I want to make sure they’re all 100 percent when I go out there on the field.”
Elite may be just a few fingertips away.
Jones had 77 of those opportunities in his second season and caught 51 of them, making him 29th in the league in converting targets into catches, best on the Bengals, according to profotballfocus.com. That allowed Jones to join Green, Isaac Curtis, Cris Collinsworth, and Chad Johnson as the only Bengals to average at least 14 yards per catch while scoring at least 10 touchdowns.
Those guys have been to a total of 15 Pro Bowls.
“That’s what I love to do. Take care of my opportunities and just explode,” Jones said. “That’s what I try to do.”
Mohamed Sanu (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/mohamed-sanu/2ec826da-ce44-498c-8d77-174bbd664114/), the starting slot receiver who also attended Andy Dalton (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/andy-dalton/9378c4ed-938c-434c-929d-4d45fe252101/)’s two-day baby not mini camp along with Brandon Tate (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/brandon-tate/56768822-7e1d-43fb-94da-5c49f43032b5/), Ryan Whalen (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/ryan-whalen/e84aa0ea-6783-4841-a7a0-9394d3be48cc/), and Cobi Hamilton (http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/cobi-hamilton/3cc62aae-44fc-4ba3-b297-07ee403ba34a/), believes the receivers as a group can reach elite. There is that not so small matter of execution.
“We can definitely do it. It’s up to us. There’s a difference between knowing it and doing it,” Sanu said. “We look a lot better. We have another season under our belt and I think this year should be a good one. We have all the things we worked on this offseason and its showing. We all look really good, explosive, fast, strong, in shape. Now we have to fine tune everything so that all 11 guys on offense are on the same page.”
That was one of the ideas behind Dalton’s invitation to throw at Texas Christian University. Sanu says, “I can’t think of a route we didn’t run…It was all about getting our timing down.” But the timing came at a good time for something else.
“The bonding is a big thing,’ Jones said. “That’s something we don’t get to do while we’re in the rigors of camp and going at it every day. You get a chance to step back and be with each other. It’s good to have that bond with the fellas. It makes us stronger on the field in terms of helping each other, being there for each other, everybody picking up everybody. That was great to do.”
In addition to picking up the tab for their food and hotel rooms, Dalton opened the gates to his home and hosted a barbecue dinner as well as swimming and several games of H-O-R-S-E.
“We hung around his man-cave, played a little basketball game with a hoop in there, and we were just chatting it up,” Sanu said. “He takes charge. We’ll follow him where ever he wants to take us.”
That, of course, is deep into the postseason. But a little camaraderie right before the preseason probably doesn’t hurt any. And they hit it just right as Dalton and wife Jordan were still getting acclimated to the June 30 birth of Noah, their first child.
(“Noah’s a cute baby,” Sanu assured.)
“Some guys (on other teams) won’t do it,” Jones said of the travel for the camp. “We want to get things headed in the right direction. We want to change the game. I think with the core we have, we’re like brothers. We’re just so close.
“When Andy called and said, ‘Hey, c’mon down,’ everyone was on board,” Jones said. “We all stay in contact. There’s not a day or an hour that goes by that all of us aren’t in a group text talking. That’s what I love about it.”
They’re even talking about loving the drudgery of training camp.
“I always make it a point to go back to the basics. Hone in on the fundamentals. That’s what camp is for because you’re going to grind,” Jones said. “I just want to keep doing what I’ve been doing and that’s be consistent and work on having a great practice every practice.”

A.J. Green only wants Andy Dalton throwing him passes

Andy Dalton (http://www.nfl.com/player/andydalton/2495143/profile)'s contract situation remains in limbo as the quarterback hopes to come away with Jay Cutler-type money (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000354749/article/marvin-lewis-cutlers-deal-holding-up-dalton-talks) and questions about whether the Cincinnati Bengals (http://www.nfl.com/teams/cincinnatibengals/profile?team=CIN) want to pay that price tag go unanswered.

However, at least one teammate wants Dalton to stick around well beyond this season. A.J. Green (http://www.nfl.com/player/a.j.green/2495450/profile), appearing Wednesday on the NFL Network's Top 100 Reaction Show (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-top100-2014/0ap2000000364185/Green-striving-for-greatness)(the receiver was No. 9 on the list (http://www.nfl.com/top100/2014#video=0ap2000000363942)), said Dalton is the only quarterback he wants to catch passes from.

"We came in together and that is the great thing for me and him," Green said. "I know he's my guy. I don't want any other quarterback throwing me the ball. I think he feels the same way about me."

Presumably Bengals (http://www.nfl.com/teams/cincinnatibengals/profile?team=CIN) offensive coordinator Hue Jackson (http://www.nfl.com/player/huejackson/2517259/profile) would like that, too, considering he went uber-hyperbolic on us last month, saying Green and Dalton were the best combo in the NFL (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000362383/article/hue-jackson-andy-dalton-aj-green-best-qbwr-duo).

Green said one reason he wants Dalton as his quarterback is the chemistry they've built.

"He feels confident that whether I'm double covered, triple covered, it don't matter I'm going to come down with the ball," Green said. "And I feel like we've grown over these last three years and I feel like this year is going to be another key year for us."

Indeed it will be a key year in Cincinnati, especially if Dalton is playing to prove he deserves a big contract.

I absolutely cannot wait for camp to start. These article are getting me so giddy.

"He feels confident that whether I'm double covered, triple covered, it don't matter I'm going to come down with the ball,"

Steve Smith was quoted during Cam Newton's first training camp: "If I'm covered, I'm wide open. If I'm double covered, I'm open. If I'm triple covered...throw it up, I'm Steve Smith."

That's what I thought of here, but seriously I'm going to throw the remote through the TV if Dalton throws to Green in triple coverage this year. Way too many other weapons to waste a ball into triple coverage even if there is a shot he comes down with it. I'd much rather AJs stat line be 4-90-1 on 6 targets than 7-130-1 on 16 targets.

Together these two have spent 3 years learning the game and mostly playing reactionary football. Now its time to dictate the game. Hue has to know this. If we are needing to throw the ball into triple coverage (like Gruden often encouraged with his "throw it up to AJ no matter what" play calls) we are in for trouble and Andy will rack up undue INTs.

One successful 75 yard TD strike to AJ in the late 3rd qtr during single coverage (ya know, like how we always managed to let Brown, or Wallace, or Ward, or Burress slip behind the defense after 2 1/2 qtrs where the Steelers never took a deep shot and just continued to move the ball efficiently) will do more damage than 4 deep attempts in the first 20 minutes of the game, none of which connect and one is intercepted. We dictate the pace and the defense so that when its time to strike, its a high probability play call.
