One word describes this one.

Week 3! Home opener vs the Raiders! We go into the week in 4th in the AFC East. The Bills lead the divsion at 2-0, and while the Jets and Miami are also 1-1, we lose tiebreakers to both (H2H to Miami, Divison record to the Jets). But, it's only week 2!

However, Dobson is out. I don't get this healthy scratch of Dobson and KT (week 1 and 3 for Aaron, last week for KT) to keep LaFell active. In the games they've played, both KT and Aaron have played well. LaFell has done nothing.

We have Greg Gumble and Trent Greene again. Pete Morelli is the ref.

Raiders P1: Start at the 20. 6 plays and a punt.

Pats P1: Start at the 18. Three and out. OMG, LaFell has a catch. For 3 yards and 3rd and 10.

Raiders P2: Start at the 19. 13 play drive. Nothing explosive. However, they settle for a 49 yard FG, and they burn two time outs. 3-0 Oakland.

Pats P2: Start at the 20. 7 plays and a punt. The drive was going well until Fleming held and it got derailed.

Raiders P3: Start at the 17. 8 plays and a punt. Streater hurt on the last play of the drive. It's hip issue, and he's unlikely to return.

Pats P3: Start at the 16. 16 play drive. Nothing special. Ends with an 6 yard TD to Gronk. 7-3 Pats. We were 5 of 5 on 3rd down.

Raiders P4: Start at the 20. Three and out.

Pats P4: Start at the 48. The punt hit about the 30, and bounced our way. We drive nicely, and almost come up empty thanks to a bad snap with 8 seconds left in the half. However, we get a 21 yard FG to end the half with a 10-3 lead. We get the ball to start the second half.

Halftime. Penalties are down. LaFell is useless. Hey, BB, next week, let's have LaFell as the healthy scratch.

Pats P5: Start at the 20. Three and out, ends with a Tuck sack of Brady. On a side note, Trent Greene is not good at this job.

Raiders P5: Start at the Pats 48. 7 plays. Raiders do get a 37 yard FG. 10-6 Pats.

Pats P6: Start at the 20. 8 plays. Some ball movement, but we end up punting. LaFell had a 15 yard catch during the drive.

Raiders P6: Start at the 14. 10 play drive. One big play, a 29 yard pass play to Holmes on 3rd and 4. However, they do get a 47 yard FG to make it 10-9 Pats.

Pats P7: Start at the 41. Seabass with a short kickoff and a great return by Slater. Let's go Pats!!!! 10 play drive that carries us to the 4th. Wright and KT impact the game with catches of 20 and 15 yards and Minitron gets us a first and goal on the 2. But, Vereen slips on 1st down, getting just 1, and then Gronk and Danny drop TDs on 2nd and 3rd down. We get the FG for the 13-9 lead, but it's disappointing that we didn't get 7.

Raiders P7: Start at the 20. 3 and out! We needed that! Also, at some point, Tyvon Branch of the Raiders was hurt and his return is questionable.

Pats P8: Start at the 19. More squandering. We lead with a 16 yard Minitron catch. After a Ridley 5 yard run and an overturned Edelman catch, we have 3rd and 5 and Danny gets a 14 yard play. It comes back. OPI. LaFell. Legit call, too, he shoved a DB to the ground. Gronk bails us out on 3rd and 15 with a 20 yard play. Tom goes to LaFell, but Woodson defense it. However, two plays to Vereen get us a first, then a LaFell catch gets another. But, we stall after that get get just a FG. 16-9 Pats.

Raiders P8: Start at the 20. 3 and out.

Pats P9: Start at the 28. Three and out. Brady sacked on 2nd down, Lafell with a 3rd down catch, but short of the first.

Raiders P9: Start at the 37. We dodge a bullet! McFadden picks up 11, then Carr finds Jones for 18 at the warning. After a deep try to Jones and a McFadden run, they go deep. Holmes shoves Logan Ryan to the ground, but Ryan is called for DPI, giving Oakland a 1st and goal at the 2. On the next play, McFadden scores, but it comes back on holding on Jackson. On the next play, Logan Ryan deflects a Carr pass with his face and Vince Wilfork catches it! Game over.

This was an ugly game. My takeaways are three:

1. Trent Green is terribad.
2. We need to play much better 3rd down offense. We're terrible this season on 3rd.
3. LaFell needs to sit. We had two drives where we looked like us. He sat on both. He played 7 drives, we sucked on all of them.

Officiating Grade: A

Third downs:

Pats: 6 for 18
Raiders: 5 of 14
