Shocker of 2011, albeit early in the year...according to retweet after retweet by legit sources, Gary will be back for his 6th season...absolutely stunning!!! Can we change the name from Texans to Unmetexpectations this year? Your 2011 Houston Unmetexpectations Everybody!

It's a little cumbersome to write, but sure, why not? :)

You know if Peyton Manning's reading the news today he's got to be thinking... (and this is before potential coaching changes)
JAX implodes. Check
TEN implodes. Check
HOU unmetexpectations. Check

Bring it on!

Awful decision. Bob McNair really likes Kubiak and I think this is an example of emotion super-ceding business decisions. McNair seems to think that overhauling the defense will change the Texans' fortunes next year but they are in more trouble than that. Kubiak is responsible for the offense, which performed well this year, however Rick Smith was brought in with Kubiak as well and has been a total failure at acquiring personnel. The drafting has been very questionable and they make next to zero impactful moves in free agency. Kubiak is 37-43 in six seasons and has failed to reach the playoffs. Look at Tampa's turnaround and Kansas City's turnaround in one season. There is no excuse for a total lack of progress. Two 8-8 seasons and one 9-7 season in six years is hardly an improvement.

Wade Phillips is supposed to be brought in as the DC but I am not convinced his hire will be the right one. Houston does not, by my estimation, have the personnel for a 3-4 defense which is what Wade runs. Capers tried to install one years back and it failed. Wade is a solid DC when he has the proper players but if he tries to transform the Texans it could possibly set them back another couple years. That remains to be seen.

If houston goes to the 3-4 it's not going to fit some of their personnel, but it should fit Connor Barwin well.

Why was Houston's defense so stinky this year. Was it just that Connor went out for the year on the first game?

No question he hurt the depth, then the loss of DeMeco Ryans who is the captain and the run stopper. The defensive line was unable to generate any pressure and still lacks a talent at DT. Also a secondary in tatters with a rookie as the #1 CB.

And Frank Bush sucks.

They'll still be a preseason fave next year, and sucker a lot of people in. I do love they hired Wade Phillips as DC.
