Julian Edelman was taking snaps as a running back at Pats practice today. Could the Pats be jumping on the Wildcat bandwagon now that it seems to have almost run its course or are they so hardup for someone to do something out of the backfield that they are going to try Edelman as a changeup back? He'd at least be a great replacement to Faulk back coming out of the back field to make receptions, but could he really handle the beating a running back takes carrying the football?

The kid is smart and has a flexible mindset. He was a decent runner as QB back in college, has good hands, and a credible threat as a passer. Probably setting him up for a gimmick play or two. The kind of play Belichick wishes he would have had last year to use against the Colts on thea 4 and 3.

I'm surprised they haven't done this before. Edelman was both the leading passer and leading rusher his senior year at Kent State, and broke Josh Cribbs' (another Kent State QB) single-season record for total offense.

Maybe they didn't want to steal the time from Brady in practice, given he'd lost a year and needed to shake the rust off. Now they feel they can add a new wrinkle.
