So, based solely on offseason hype, and these pre-season games, let us all post our picks for Division Winners. At the end of the regular season, we can then get bragging rights.

Only Rule: You have until kickoff of the Vikings@Saints game on Thursday Sept 9, 20:30 ET to post your picks. Before that, you can post and re-edit your picks.

I don't know why anyone would pick the Squeelers to win the AFCN. They are starting the season behind the 8-ball without Rothlisberger and there's serious questions about the efficacy of their oline.

Because I have no faith in the Bengals, I like the Ravens, but TP is back, and the Steelers have had a track record for winning when no one picks em haha

Nobody is talking about them. They shine when media talks about other teams. The Bengals certainly have one of the most talented teams in the league, but can they keep egos in check? Also when the Bengals are supposed to be good they usually aren't. Maybe this year will be an exception. The Ravens have too many issues in the secondary. The Steelers can play, and win, without Ben.

Continuing to refine my picks based on the "By the Numbers" research I did a couple of weeks ago. Only three division winners will repeat, and a fourth will make it as a Wild Card... only half of last year's Wild Card teams will return to the playoffs... at least 2 teams that finished last year 5-11 or worse will make the playoffs... only 1 of the 2 Super Bowl participants will return to the playoffs.

I may be way off on these, but here are my predictions as they stand here in August:

AFC:
East - New England Patriots. Too many people are betting against the Pats - I think they will fight off the contenders to their throne.
North - Baltimore Ravens. The cornerback issues are a concern, but with the way they play up front they can make up for weakness in the back end.
South - Tennessee Titans. Only a season removed from 13-3 and flying almost completely under the radar. Great coach, great running back, solid defense, third place schedule
West - San Diego Chargers. I really think they could be primed for a fall but I couldn't pull the trigger on any of the other teams in their division.
Wild Card - Indianapolis Colts. I think the Colts have proven to be too consistent over the years for the "Super Bowl Loser" curse to bite them.
Wild Card - Cleveland Browns. I will stick with the Browns as my surprise team for 2010. The city of Cleveland deserves something good after the Lebron debacle and I like their OLine, running game, and the way they finished last season. I think the fact that Jake Delhomme is an improvement over what they had last year speaks volumes about the QB situation in Cleveland last year.

NFC:
East - New York Giants. The defense went on vacation at the end of last year, but I think Perry Fewell will bring them back and Eli Manning is the best QB in the division. Yeah, I said it.
North - Green Bay Packers. Homer pick? Possibly.
South - Atlanta Falcons. Once I picked the Colts to make the playoffs, that meant New Orleans was out, but I have loved the Falcons all offseason and think they are a Super Bowl contender out of the NFC.
West - Arizona Cardinals. Everyone wants to hand this division to the 49ers, but I don't see it. I think Coach Whisenhunt has the horses to get this team back to the playoffs with Matt Leinart behind center.
Wild Card - Chicago Bears. It came down to Chicago versus San Francisco or Carolina for this last playoff spot, and I decided I liked Jay Cutler at QB better than I like Alex Smith or Matt Moore
Wild Card - Washington Redskins. The additions of Donovan McNabb and Mike Shanahan make it difficult to pass up this team as a 4-12 team to make the jump into the playoffs.

Gotta go with Romo. Yes Manning has a ring but the D won that game by shutting down the Pats. Romo will play like a top 5 qb this year

Ok...Bored and slightly buzzed, I decided to see where the general consensus was with these picks. So I gave votes for a division winner a value of 3 points and wildcard picks a value of 1 point. Let me know if this seems unfair in some way.

Anyway, both numbers are added together for an overall score. It should be noted that these numbers only really mattered in the wildcard as the division winners were pretty clear.

Here it goes:

AFC

East Patriots (56 points)
North Ravens (57)
South Colts (73)
West Chargers (70)

Wildcard Bengals (27), Jets (24)

NFC

East Cowboys (69 points)
North Packers (67)
South Saints (64)
West 49ers (66)

Wildcard Falcons (30), Vikings/Giants tied (22)

AFC EAST- New England Patriots ( Too many distractions for Jets and Miami for the division title)
AFC NORTH - Cincinnati Bengals ( I just don't trust the Raven's Secondary)
AFC SOUTH - Indy Colts ( it's theirs to lose)
AFC WEST - San Diego Chargers ( You have no Idea how tempted I am to put the Raiders here, talk to me about Preseason Week 3 when I talk myself into it)
AFC WILDCARDS - Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans ( i'm leaving the Ravens off for now.. I think Dolphins edge the Ravens by 1 game or a tie break.. just a feeling)

NFC EAST - NY Giants ( They are seriously flying under rader, my team for the year that people forgot how good they were)
NFC NORTH - Green Bay Packers
NFC SOUTH -[I]Tampa Bay Bucs .[/I Homerism aside ( Though it could happen) ]Atlanta Falcons ( Don't think Saints Repeat and ATL D looks nice)
NFC WEST - San Fran 49er's ( This prediction is dead if Gore goes down, Coffee retiring really does hurt)
NFC WILDCARDS - Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys ( Saints are going to push for Division title and if they don't get it, i think they don't make wildcard)

Yea.. not your average prediction lol

I can't disagree with anything typed out here.. even the Browns pick ( winner of TB/Brown came comes out with a ton of momentum for the rest of the year.. i have a feeling later in the year this game will have been a lot more important then it was stated at beginnning) However.. I just don't see Indy not taking that division.. you have to get at least 13 wins to beat the Colts who have won 12+ for how many years now and while I think Tenn or Houston can easily get 10, maybe more.. I just don't see them winning 13.

Time to start looking back on our picks, see how we did.

Since I started this thread, I get to make the scoring rules. :D

If You picked a division winner correctly: 2pts
If you picked a team to make the playoffs, but got the seeding incorrect: 1pt
If you picked either the Carolina, Vikes, Arizona, Cowboys, Denver or Bengals: -1 pt

My curent Standings:

+2 AFC EAST- Patriots
-1 AFC NORTH - Bengals
+0 AFC SOUTH - Houston
+0 AFC WEST - Raiders
+1 AFC WILDCARDS -Chargers & Steelers
+1 NFC EAST - Giants
+2 NFC NORTH - Bears
+1 NFC SOUTH - Saints
+0 NFC WEST - 49ers
+0 NFC WILDCARDS -Falcons & Cowboys

Score: +5

We have two more weeks to go, let's see how things work out!

Funny how so many of us had Cowboys winning division and Steelers missing the playoffs entirely. What the heck was happening in August to make us think that? 1)Well, we didn't expect the complete implosion of the Bengals, which coupled to a supposedly slow start for the Steelers without a QB changed scenario hugely for all. The Steelers going 1-3 was more likley than 3-1.

2) The Eagles were supposed to be rebuilding. The Mike Vick happened.

3) The cowboys had a top 10 Offense. They had a top 5 defense last year. Now they only have a top 10 offense. That is what happened.
