  • Is The Rex Ryan Factor Kicking in with Jets

With the signing of Santonio Holmes for under market value and the possibility of Nnamdi Asomugha signing opposite Darrelle Revis, the Rex Ryan factor could be storming the league. I have talked to so many players who are dying to play for Ryan. Before free agency began I wrote that I thought Ryan would get players at a discount, and he is just Nnamdi Asomugha away from winning the free agency sweepstakes. Mark Sanchez has also stepped up and offered to restructure his contract to keep the team intact. Rex Ryan and the Big Apple looks like an appetizing combination that may be too much for free agents to resist. Stay tuned.

I am officially worried now. If they nab Nnamdi, I'll move into apoplexy.

The Jets can get all the big name free agents they want but the only thing that is going to take them over the top into the Super Bowl is if Mark Sanchez finally breaks out. Once he does that then this is a scary team. Sanchez has been the only thing holding them back the last 2 years.

I loved how Sanchez also tried to get Darelle Mevis to restructure his deal as well, so they could sign some other players. Say what you will about the kids skills on the field, the kid's got leadership.

I'm sure there's a Rex Ryan effect going around. But if the Texans offer just $5 million or more than the Jets, Nnamdi's chewing on a piece of hay while wearing chaps. Remember, there's no state income tax in Texas vs. a rather hefty New York state income tax. You're going to pay 40% to Uncle Sam, 5% to your agent...

Rex Ryan better be THAT much better is all I'm saying.

My crystal ball says Asomugha's a Texan.

No question guys want to play for Rex, but does the allure start to wear off if he doesn't win a SB soon?

The allure ALWAYS wears off if you don't GO TO a SB soon.

How many more years before Patriots allure wears off. The patina is starting to fade already.

At some point it becomes more about winning a championship than making money. I'm not saying this is Scrabble's stance (Don't ask me to spell his name, I'll blow it), but I have to believe it's in the back of his mind. Money is great, but a chance at immortality doesn't come often. The Jets offer that while the Texan's aren't there quite yet.

What are you talking about? The Jet won the last two and the next three Super Bowls. Just ask Rex.

Must be nice to have a QB that cares more about winning than his salary being the highest in the league.

Holmes being there is Good for the young and surging Sanchez and he's stayed out of trouble since being there. Rex loves to have fun and this is part of the fun. Getting guys to come back and who want to play there is really want teams need and Rex being a player's coach helps them; Fischer was like that when coaching the Titans.

Great so they sign asomugha. Add that to revis', sanchez, Ferguson, mangold, Harris, scotts, Edwards contracts. What money do u actually have left to sign the other 40+ players on ur roster? Even with them signed what kind of players do u have? There better not be a single injury to any of those guys because that would mean a huge dropoff in performance from their back up. That still skirts the fact that nyj offense isn't very good. And factor in even though revis and asomugha are incredible not many qbs have challenged them simply because they didn't have to. It's been like half a decade since asomugha has been challenged. If I were a jets fan I'd be fired up about the possibilities but rarely does a paper champion win the tiffany trophy. Just ask last years jets and many different chargers teams. The most talent does not guarantee wins once the pads go on.... I'm just sayin..

That's why manning has had the neck problems... he's always looking up for his name in lights. It's surely not the abuse he takes in sacks!!

Ouch. Is that general sentiment amongst Colts nation, that Manning is more interested in a payday rather than winning another championship?

Well we could point out another article that was recent on this site that points to that fact, but I digress.

Well, thus far I haven't seen anything coming from the Manning camp indicating his expectation/desire to be the highest paid player of all time regardless of the impact on his team, only speculation. If you have quotes, I'm all ears.
    1. mikesteelnation1's Avatar
I wasn't pointing to mannings desire to be the highest paid, only the reasons he should want to be in lieu of the window closing.
