• AP Award Time: Give Me Your Picks

It is that time of year again. I got my first vote for AP awards last year, and you guys were a great help in helping me fill out my form. Anybody that has any thoughts, I would love to hear them. Happy New Year!

      • MVP: Aaron Rodgers
      • Offensive POY: Drew Brees (or vice-versa)
      • Defensive POY: Suggs? Not really sure who to pick.
      • Defensive rookie: Von Miller
      • Offensive rookie: Andy Dalton (because unlike Newton, he took his team to the playoffs. Yeah, unfair to Newton, but that's the way t is.)
      • Comeback player: Matthew Stafford?
      • Coach: Jim Harbaugh

      Is that all of them?

Offensive POY: Aaron Rodgers. I don't get why the POY and MVP are necessarily different, and I still feel like Rodgers had a more impressive season than Brees (based on what I saw, plus DVOA, ANY/A). Won't complain at all if you vote Brees.
Defensive POY: I have no idea. Jared Allen maybe? Would love to hear some convincing arguments concerning others.
      Defensive Rookie: Von Miller
      Offensive Rookie: Cam Newton
Comeback POY: Matt Stafford maybe? I never really understood who to give this award to.
Coach: Jim Harbaugh or Mike McCarthy.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Mike McCarthy. Turned an injury riddled 10-6 team into a Super Bowl Champion and then followed that up with a 15-1 campaign and the top seed in the NFC. I know Harbaugh worked a miracle in San Fran, but I feel McCarthy is just as deserving of the honor.

      MVP-Rodgers by a mile
OPOY-Brees if you want to pick somebody different from MVP
      DPOY-Justin Smith
OROY-Cam Newton as much as I want to say Dalton or Green
DROY-Von Miller with Aldon Smith a close 2nd
Comeback-Stafford is as good as any
      Coach-Jim Harbaugh

I get the MVP going to Rodgers I'm all for that, talk about monster season. And the POY going to Brees cause what he's done is remarkable as well and should be rewarded for sure!
BUT I still wish there was a spot for Rob Gronkowski for the season he's had.
      It's nothing short of amazing!

      • Comeback player: Matthew Stafford

Agreed about Gronk, but at least he made the pro bowl. Jordy Nelson was sick this year and got zip.

      MVP - Aaron Rodgers
OPOY - Tom Brady - Did it without a defense, plays most games outdoors where Brees plays most of his indoors. He too, broke Marino's record
DPOY - Jason Pierre-Paul (16.5 sacks, 86 tackles, 2 FF) - of all the top sack leaders, he by far, had the most tackles.
Rookie of Year - Cam Newton hands down
      Off Rookie - AJ Green
      Def Rookie - Von Miller
Comeback Player - Victor Cruz (Nobody knew this guy last year)
      Coach - Jim Harbaugh
Executive - Mickey Loomis (Saints) - Off season acquisitions and draft put this team back on the Super Bowl train
    1. Dave Lapham's Avatar
Agree with Turk on his reasoning for all of his picks. Suggs forced 7 fumbles this season though, very disruptive. You would like to see a way for Rodgers, Brees, and Brady to all get some sort of recognition for the seasons they have had.
    1. Ragar's Avatar
      MVP: Aaron Rodgers
OPOY: Maurice Jones-Drew-averaged 100.4 rushing yards a game (1,606 yds total), 374 yds receiving, for a team with a terrible quarterback play.
DPOY: Jared Allen, dominate on a terrible team.
      ORoY: Cam Newton
      DRoY: Miller
      CPoY: Matthew Stafford
Coach: Harbaugh (though MCcarthy would get it any other year)
Executive: Marty Hurney - Carolina Panthers.

Unless Aaron Rodgers played something other than Offense during the season, separating MVP from OPOY is kind of like an elementary school class exercise where the teacher tries to give out an award to every student in order to not hurt feelings.

It just seems kind of silly.

      So...

      MVP and OPOY: Aaron Rodgers
      DPOY: Justin Smith
      OROY: Cam Newton
      DROY: Von Miller
      CPOY: Stafford
      Coach: Harbaugh or Schwartz
