    Are the Cowboys talented enough to win it all? Sometimes it is hard not to be influenced by all the hype surrounding the Cowboys. But here we go, the Dallas Cowboys path to the Super Bowl in 2012:

    1) Their offensive line improves like Tyron Smith did last year: Smith, a rookie, had no clue early, but he improved into the Cowboys best offensive lineman. Now Smith moves from RT to LT and Doug Free goes back to RT after a tough year. Imported guards Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau are the key. Bernadeau is recovering from hip surgery and Livings will have to greatly improve to make a difference. Bill Callahan is a talented OL coach and he will have his hands full.

    2) Rob Ryan's defense learns his schemes: Last year without an off-season, the Cowboys simply were running too many defensive schemes considering the time they had to install the defense. Ryan wanted to be exotic, but a lack of cover corners greatly limited his ability to take risks.

    3) New corners Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr MUST be Great: There really is no other way to say it. For the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl these two corners have to be great. The Jets and Rex Ryan have Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, the best man cover combo in the league (mostly due to Revis' dominance). Rob will need something close to compete for a ring.

    4) Somebody must provide a pass rush other than DeMarcus Ware: It is almost inconceivable that with DeMarcus Ware receiving SO much attention on one side, that no player on Rob Ryan's pressure defense could come up with more than six sacks. FYI Ware had 19.5 sacks.

    5) Somebody has to surprise with an unexpectedly great season: My candidate is Bruce Carter the linebacker drafted by the Cowboys in the second round last year. Could he become this years' Miles Austin or Sean Lee?

      Dallas won't win again until Jerry Jones passes the torch on all football related decision making. Seriously. This is a team that scored a grand total of 5...bleeping FIVE rushing touchdowns in all 16 regular season games of 2011. Plays in the NFC....the NFC east.....and can't run the ball into the endzone. A team that was top half of the league in defense in 2011.

      Jerry Jones proceeds to preside over a draft that sees them move up in the first round to draft a high profile, publicity, guy at what position.....cornerback? out of LSU? A player that said he had no idea that Dallas was interested in him, and hadn't talked to anybody in Dallas.

      Deion Sanders is long gone, and Deion didn't make that team win that last super bowl, almost 20 years ago now Jerry.

      Yes, I'm a bitter, life long Dallas Cowboys fan who's first painful memory of the Cowboys was the first super bowl loss to the Steelers.

      I"ve seriously considered giving up following the Cowboys until Jerry stops makes football decisions.

      I'm with Sparty. Screw the Cowboys. When they earn the attention, then they may have it. One good season out of the last four, two good seasons in the last eight, three good seasons in the last 13... doesn't do it for me. They get way more attention than their play has earned them.

      About as interesting to me as the Giants. No, less, as the Giants have Tom Coughlin, who is a local-enough guy that he gets a little extra press around here, focusing on his more appealing nature.

      Sean Lee looked great at MLB last year. Rangy, fast, might eb the answer to covering the slot.

      The OL still iffy. Interior line has become more and more important, and the Cowboys haven't filled that need.

      Passing the ball and rushing the passer are all that matters in Goodell's Fantasy Flag Football League. Real football - power running games and front 7s that suffocate the run - is for losers who watch the Super Bowl from the couch.

      The Cowboys are solid in the passing game and the additions at CB should help the pass rush. They just need to limit mistakes. Look at their games last year - only the Eagles really dominated the Cowboys. The other six losses were competitive but featured mistake after mistake. Holding calls, interceptions, defensive penalties, etc. etc.

      In recent years, the Cowboys have seemed to be a team that has more talent than what they show on the field. They seemed very undisciplined and made too many dumb mistakes that would cost them games. Whether it was turnovers, penalties or whatever. It just amazes me to watch the Cowboys play well enough to win a game, only to lose the game because of their undisciplined play.

      I thought this was a problem associated with Wade Phillips (who I never thought was a good head coach). But this problem still exists with Jason Garrett. So if the Cowboys can somehow clean up their mistakes, then its possible that they are a super bowl contender. But I just don't see it.

      The Cowboys have some great talent, but never a great team. With Jerry at the helm, there are always holes in the roster. They can't find five adequate lineman, or they can't find four good secondary players, or they have one substandard linebacker, but it just seems like we're always talking about some unit on the Boys that is letting them down in a major way. Jerry Jones is a failure. He needs to dump his kid and himself and hire some pro personnel. Until you hear about a big front office shake up, forget about it. To win the ultimate team game, you need a team first.

      LOL! Cold Curtis; Cold. I think the Cowboys have a Good Chance to wrangle for playoff success this year. Mind you, the Eagles have Andy Reid on the Hot Seat, especially an executive "retirement" this past offseason and no more folks to trade on a national holiday or such. However, the same way that Hot Seat years can motivate teams like the Eagles, as it did the Giants last year, that's Exactly what Dallas needs. They had people jeer Amani Toomer's comments of praise for Tony; Romo needs to take that personal & use it as a constant all season with new doubts along the way. Dallas is still a laughing stock with some people and they are not revered like 15 plus years ago as champions. They gotta ban together and finish games with Ws. They have to be consistent all year. Jason Garrett will wind up being the X Factor to pull it all together.

      This is all well and good by Collinsworth but Cowboys getting to the SB boils down to two things:

      1) Jerry Jones gives up the football reins
      2) Eli Manning goes to the AFC through some weird miracle.

      Or they could, ya know, not suck. That helps too. Didn't they have 5 blown 4th-quarter leads last year?

      Umm, Jerry has won 3 rings for us, yes under Jimmy Johnson's coaching and drafting. How many Super Bowls has your team won in it's history?? The Eagles were the "Dream Team" last year. That is the joke and punchline all in one statement. Enough said.

      Love Cowboy haters. Your jealousy of The Cowboys fame and overall success as a franchise fuels my fire and makes me love them even more, win or lose. Unlike most of you I don't hide when they lose and I actually know my team. Most of you can't name your team's starting offensive line without googling it. Woory about YOUR teams, not ours. That's all

      This is about the current Cowboys team, not the past. What a team is doing now and building for the future is what matters. You can wear the pride of the past. You just can't live in it.

      1) Check my team avatar and post count before you go proclaiming love for and/or knowledge of a bad team.
      2) There are quite a few posters here who could name the starting o-lines for their tea, your team, my team and the Cleveland Browns without googling.
      3) There are also a few guys here who could still name your starting o-line from those famed Jimmy Johnson cowboys (Tuenei, Newton, Stepnoski, Williams and... dammit...was it Gesek?)
      4) My antipathy for the cowboys is borne of hatred of Jerrah and the way he callously fired my favorite football coach at the time (Landry). Jealousy is not involved. As a kid, I loved the 'boys.

      Also there are a couple of posters who can't name "their" team's most anything, but can cite you the starting lineup of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, which is where the REAL games are won and lost.
