The United Football League is coming back in 2012 and a familiar face will be roaming the sidelines as the new head coach and general manager of the Sacramento Mountain Lions - FP's very own Turk Schonert.
After spending last season as a member of Jerry Glanville's staff for the Las Vegas Locomotives, Turk (it just doesn't feel right to go all journalistic and call him "Schonert") will be stepping into the position last held in Sacramento by Dennis Green.
The Mountain Lions have to come to an agreement to play their four home games at Raley Field in West Sacramento. They are scheduled to play their first game of the 2012 season on the road against Turk's former team in Las Vegas on Wednesday September 19th at 8PM. The "Molos" will open their home slate the following Friday, Sepetember 28th against the Omaha Nighthawks.
The best news, of course, is that we can see the games this year thanks to the UFL's new television contract with CBS Sports Network.
Congratulations, Turk. Now go tear 'em up.
