Well, applying the same pythagorean rankings explained last week, and weighing 2011 results with this weeks in a 75%/25% mix, we obtain:

      Code:
      rk	Tm	week 2
      1	New England Patriots 0.756
      2	Baltimore Ravens 0.733
      3	Houston Texans 0.717
      4	San Francisco 49ers 0.704
      5	New Orleans Saints 0.626
      6	Green Bay Packers 0.624
      7	Atlanta Falcons 0.618
      8	San Diego Chargers 0.593
      9	New York Jets 0.591
      10	Philadelphia Eagles 0.584
      11	Chicago Bears 0.574
      12	Detroit Lions 0.571
      13	Dallas Cowboys 0.555
      14	Pittsburgh Steelers 0.543
      15	Denver Broncos 0.521
      16	Arizona Cardinals 0.506
      17	Seattle Seahawks 0.458
      18	Washington Redskins 0.456
      19	New York Giants 0.444
      20	Minnesota Vikings 0.418
      21	Tennessee Titans 0.417
      22	Carolina Panthers 0.417
      23	Cincinnati Bengals 0.414
      24	Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0.412
      25	Jacksonville Jaguars 0.392
      26	Oakland Raiders 0.390
      27	Miami Dolphins 0.382
      28	Cleveland Browns 0.375
      29	Buffalo Bills 0.367
      30	Kansas City Chiefs 0.364
      31	St. Louis Rams 0.248
      32	Indianapolis Colts 0.231
Patriots at #1 matches with perception. The top 5 is pretty much the same, with slight differences.

I'm always suprised by pundits raising the Colts rankings. I have them dead to last, since they haven't done enough to show any improvement from last year. All they did was draft a player.

Let's look at the biggest mover in Sparta's cumulative rankings this week.

Sparta Upwards: Redskins +8, Cowboys +7, Bucs +6
Pyth upshift: Redskins +8, Cowboys +2, Bucs +6

Conclusion: don't by stock in the cowgirls. Specially since they are going to Seattle were the home team is fierce.

Sparta Downshift: Bills -8, Giants -7, Seahawks -5
Pyth downshiftshift: Bills -5, Giants -3, Seahawks +0

Pundits wer overhyping. Pythagoras was very good at predicting the Seahawks, the GIants were probably ranked way to high, given that they are the same team that won 9 games last year, and required a set of fluky coincidences to make it to the big game. The Bills are worse than even last year, something nobody expected.

From week 1, the changes in rankings ( to compare with Sparta's compelte list, is:

      Code:
      Tm Diff
      Arizona Cardinals 5
      Atlanta Falcons 3
      Baltimore Ravens 3
      Buffalo Bills -5
      Carolina Panthers -3
      Chicago Bears 9
      Cincinnati Bengals -12
      Cleveland Browns 1
      Dallas Cowboys 2
      Denver Broncos 8
      Detroit Lions -3
      Green Bay Packers -5
      Houston Texans 4
      Indianapolis Colts -1
      Jacksonville Jaguars 2
      Kansas City Chiefs -5
      Miami Dolphins -9
      Minnesota Vikings 8
      New England Patriots 3
      New Orleans Saints -3
      New York Giants -3
      New York Jets 5
      Oakland Raiders -4
      Philadelphia Eagles -2
      Pittsburgh Steelers -8
      San Diego Chargers 4
      San Francisco 49ers -1
      Seattle Seahawks 0
      St. Louis Rams 1
      Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6
      Tennessee Titans -8
      Washington Redskins 8

I like that +7 for DAL but I wonder how they will deal with an 11 day layover and playing out west. I get this sense that they are going to show flashes of their 2011 self and not be as convincing. I pick them to win but they have to overachieve to show they are a new team for real. That Opening Kickoff was a nice win though; certainly good and saying something.
