• 2012 FP Upset Special Challenge: Week #7

This weeks image brought to you by the Hall of Fame. The pads used above belonged to Clarence (Ace) Parker. Those old baseball oriented team names always throw me for a loop when I first read them.

Another week, more surprises. Lot's of winners last week: KabaModernFan, kidjock, Swami, SpartaChris, Trumpetbdw, brauneyz, buzmeg, chris, cml, jhinkamp, msclemons, Pruitt, Afrocomb, Colts01, me and StarvinMarvin.

Colts01, and Pruitt remain in the lead with 5 wins although there are a growing number of 4 win challengers in close pursuit. Results and standings are at the end of last weeks thread.

Now on to Week #7 of the FP Upset Special Challenge. Let's get busy.

You can join us every week. You can join mid-season. If you miss a week, so what? Come back next week. We're just glad you're here. Talk smack if you want. Keep it clean and be prepared to back it up. There are some folks here at FP that really know football.

    Rules:

    • One pick per week
    • Your chosen team must be at least a (+3) underdog (Only games listed in this column are eligible)
    • Your chosen team must win the game outright (no 'pushes' or 'covers')
    • Season winner is the one with the most upsets correctly chosen between Week #1 through the Conference Championship Games (20 weeks all together)
    • There will be a points system to determine a winner in the event of a tie
    • Points will be accumulated by adding the game spreads for your correct picks (if you take Carolina (+4.5) and Carolina wins, you will be awarded a win and 4.5 points). Be careful making picks based on the number of points possible. Points only count if you are tied for the total wins lead when the whole contest is finished.
    • The No Upsets Option: Predict correctly that 'No Upsets' will occur in any given week and you will be awarded one win and a point total equal to the sum of all the spreads in that week's Upset Special. If you wish to exercise the 'No Upsets' Option, that prediction is due by 5 minutes prior to kickoff of the first game of the week in question. This includes Thursday Night Football and Saturday Playoff games. The 'No Upsets' option is confined to the Upset Possibilities listed in this article.
    • Picks are due no later than 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the broadcast time for your game. The FootballPros.com time stamp on your post is gospel.
    • Spread lines will be posted Wednesday and will remain static throughout the week. This isn't The Sports Book at Caesar's Palace, after all.

Prizes to be determined but may include a cool icon denoting your status as *ahem* Upset Special Top Dog, a hat or t-shirt or possibly tickets to the Super Bowl (NOT!!)

Week #7 Upset Special Possibilities (odds by OddsShark). Underdogs in bold.

    Sunday Early Games

    • Redskins (+7) @ Giants
    • Titans (+3) @ Bills
    • Browns (+3) @ Colts
    • Packers @ Rams (+5)
    • Cardinals (+7.5) @ Vikings
    • Ravens (+7.5) @ Texans

    Sunday Late Games

    • Jaguars (+4.5) @ Raiders
    • Jets (+12) @ Patriots

    Sunday Night Football

    • No Game Qualifies

    Monday Night Football

    • Lions (+7) @ Bears

    Dave's Week #7 Upset Special:

The late game list is shortened... for baseball. It's not like they already had the whole summer to themselves or anything.

The home teams are favored in all of our games this week except for Packers @ Rams. So who do I like on the road among the Redskins, Browns, Ravens and Jaguars?

My gut tells me the Colts spent nearly everything two weeks ago, coupled with some injuries, and a minuscule advantage in DVOA (after an adjustment for home) isn't enough. Since I'm going with the Browns elsewhere, I'll take them here too.

I also only have 1 win. This is getting ugly.

If ever there were a "No Upsets" week, it's this week. That's not my nature, however. Give me the feisty Rams.

A few intriguing options here. I can't imagine the Giants are going to lose to the Redskins AGAIN, so I'll take the Titans. They keep teasing me enough to keep me on their bandwagon, and I haven't seen anything yet from the Bills to make me believe in them.

I'll take the Skins. The Giants are an up and down team. I think they will be down this week.

How does the NFL completely revamping their player conduct policy equate to having their cake and eating it too? Sounds more like they had a large slice of humble pie. Go to last post
