  • 2012 FP Upset Special Challenge: Week #9

Trumpetbdw, DaBearsFan, chris, Colts01, brauneyz, Pruitt and jfkaspar lead the way with five wins. Trumpetbdw has taken a narrow lead on points. Full results and standings are at the end of last weeks thread.

Now on to Week #9 of the FP Upset Special Challenge. Let's get busy.

You can join us every week. You can join mid-season. If you miss a week, so what? Come back next week. We're just glad you're here. Talk smack if you want. Keep it clean and be prepared to back it up. There are some folks here at FP that really know football.

    Rules:

    • One pick per week
    • Your chosen team must be at least a (+3) underdog (Only games listed in this column are eligible)
    • Your chosen team must win the game outright (no 'pushes' or 'covers')
    • Season winner is the one with the most upsets correctly chosen between Week #1 through the Conference Championship Games (20 weeks all together)
    • There will be a points system to determine a winner in the event of a tie
    • Points will be accumulated by adding the game spreads for your correct picks (if you take Carolina (+4.5) and Carolina wins, you will be awarded a win and 4.5 points). Be careful making picks based on the number of points possible. Points only count if you are tied for the total wins lead when the whole contest is finished.
    • The No Upsets Option: Predict correctly that 'No Upsets' will occur in any given week and you will be awarded one win and a point total equal to the sum of all the spreads in that week's Upset Special. If you wish to exercise the 'No Upsets' Option, that prediction is due by 5 minutes prior to kickoff of the first game of the week in question. This includes Thursday Night Football and Saturday Playoff games. The 'No Upsets' option is confined to the Upset Possibilities listed in this article.
    • Picks are due no later than 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the broadcast time for your game. The FootballPros.com time stamp on your post is gospel.
    • Spread lines will be posted Wednesday and will remain static throughout the week. This isn't The Sports Book at Caesar's Palace, after all.

Prizes to be determined but may include a cool icon denoting your status as *ahem* Upset Special Top Dog, a hat or t-shirt or possibly tickets to the Super Bowl (NOT!!)

Week #9 Upset Special Possibilities (odds by OddsShark). Underdogs in bold.

    Thursday Night Football

    • Chiefs (+7.5) @ Chargers

    Sunday Early Games

    • Panthers (+3.5) @ Redskins
    • Lions @ Jaguars (+3.5)
    • Ravens @ Browns (+3.5)
    • Broncos @ Bengals (+3)
    • Bears @ Titans (+3.5)
    • Cardinals (+12) @ Packers
    • Bills (+12) @ Texans

    Sunday Late Games

    • Vikings (+5) @ Seahawks
    • Steelers (+3) @ Giants

    Sunday Night Football

    • Cowboys (+4) @ Falcons

    Monday Night Football

    • Eagles (+3) @ Saints

    Dave's Week #9 Upset Special:

There isn't much to work with here and No Upsets hasn't been much of an option thus far this season so I guess I'll take the Vikings.

      Five wins.

Here's where I keep a copy of the current up to date sheet when I remember to put it up:

      http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1050018/fp-u...al/to-date.pdf

You can thank having picked: Redskins (over Saints), Cardinals (over Eagles), Bears (over Cowboys), Titans (over Bills) and Colts (over Titans).

Here I thought I totally sucked at this endeavor.. but upon further review I'm only one win behind!!

Not to be picky Dave, but posting everyone's total wins would be a good thing. I was ready to give up!!

Being 50% is bad at picking NFL games, but apparently its not so bad at picking outright upsets with a 3pt+ spread

The number of posters has shrunk, and I'd venture a guess that they felt the same way I did before I downloaded the spread sheet. I'm in the thick of it with almost half the season to go..

Total wins with point totals may fire it back up.

      KC

I know I'm going against many trends, hopefully KC won't have 5TO's again as they did in their earlier matchup this year and I was wondering if SD LT Gaither starts again and is a bit slow, that Houston or Hali will make him look like a matador.
SD ST w/Weddle returning punts will need to be watched, not that KC Arenas is doing much better, but he did start the year as the PR., Weddle is sub'g for Royal so we'll see...

I sucked the first month going 0-fer (with one week no pick - my brain gets fried from too many 60hr work weeks and not enough football... lol or was it the replacement refs? it can't be me? hah!) this 2nd month - 3 of 4 - much better, lets start this 3rd month with a bang...

I post a link to the standings image each week but am open to any and all suggestions on how I could make it more obvious that it needs to be clicked to see.

Maybe a standings PDF that's always in the same place would work but I'm not sure.
