    After the Bears made news in the middle of the night, Chip "One-Upper" Kelly made news in the middle of the day. First reported by Chris Mortensen, Chip Kelly has proven he likes the color green and is leaving Oregon to become coach of the Eagles. About a week after telling everyone who would listen that he would stay at Oregon, Kelly now believes he sees greener pastures in the City of Brotherly Love.

    The hiring of Kelly provides some additional interesting narratives. First, it proves that the read-option concepts that Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin III have brought to the NFL are here to stay for a while. Secondly, it will be interesting to see if anything happens to Oregon after he leaves. After all, reports came out just a month ago about an important meeting. Is he the next Pete Carroll? Third, it proves that Jeffrey Lurie can out-spend Phil Knight, given the proper context. Fourth, it may have been a comment on exactly how tough it is for Cleveland to bring any big names to their town. Finally, it may lead to another change in Dallas at the defensive coordinator spot.

    No matter how the whole thing plays out, Chip Kelly has now managed to produce a slew of new storylines in the drama-rich NFL.

      Those football coaches are slippery sons of guns. Kelly continued to talk even after recommitting to Oregon. Good point about the NCAA investigation.

      This is spot on. With player safety becoming first priority, the league has lopped off the nuts of the defense. The read-option would work in Philly, only if Vick were to stay and it's a safe bet that he will be gone. Foles won't be able to run it because there is no threat in his ability to run. I expect a no-huddle, and quick tempo offense similar to the Patriots. Foles can thrive in that type of offense.
      It's still a wait and see what happens in the offseason. They could draft a QB, depending on Chip's vision of QB. That means Foles is traded to maybe here in KC with Andy Reid? So many questions right now.

      And nice to see the classy ways of college coaches don't disappoint.

      Not sure how secure Eagles fans should feel, if this coach decides to run to the hills like Petrino.

      He might not be successful this year, but once you give him a year or two to get his own players, they'll contend. Most of his offense is already in the NFL, but he'll still need to adjust it if he's forced to start Foles.

      The current Eagles are going to have to get used to him. Switching from Reid to Kelly isn't going to be smooth transition. I doubt the veterans will be content with the rigorous practices and up-tempo offense.

      I don't fault coaches for jumping to the NFL. I don't like how they lie though.

      It's weird. Everyone knew he was looking, and they were OK with it. Why do the double jump? We're all human, we all second-guess ourselves. But jeez, you'd hope that a guy in his position would be more decisive. It does make you wonder whether he learned something about the NCAA investigation between his two jumps.

      Also, I'm not up to speed with what's going on in Philly. But from the outside, it sure looks like M. Vick would be a perfect QB for Kelly.

      I think he is jumping because Oregon is in trouble sanctions wise. And he said what he said, because it probably gave him more leverage, I guess. I just hate it though. Lack of honesty in anybody is one of the biggest things you can do, and he basically lied to a whole bunch of people.

      Exactly. And some of them really can lie with smile on their faces....
