• Sean Payton Reinstated

The NFL answered one more outstanding question about the Bountygate situation today when the league announced the reinstatement of Sean Payton.

Since nothing is done by the commissioner's office with out intent, it seems pretty clear that Roger Goodell was interested in doing something positive to begin two weeks of Super Bowl coverage. The reinstatement could be some sort of olive branch by Goodell since the game will be played in New Orleans. There is no word yet if New Orleans City Council has recinded the measure about to go before the board to change the name of the city to New Goodell Sucks Orleans.

The meat of the statement said:

“We had a very productive discussion,” said Commissioner Goodell. “Sean fully complied with all the requirements imposed on him during his suspension. More important, it is clear that Sean understands and accepts his responsibilities as a head coach and the vital role that coaches play in promoting player safety and setting an example for how the game should be played at all levels. We are committed to delivering football that fans love and the safety players deserve. Coach Payton agrees and I look forward to working with him going forward to do that.”
There was also no word on if the meeting took place in the giant pool of money Sean Payton swims in that was partially earned due to missing out on a disappointing 2012 regular season.

I still wouldn't try the Shrimp, Mr. Goodell.

I will pay for a photo of Goodell in New Orleans holding a brown bag lunch during Super Bowl week.

If you have't seen the floats, try googling this: Krewe du Vieux Goodell (note to wax, don't do it)

When the NYT asked James Carville for restaurant recommendations he recommended something with a back room or room service.

Just a warning, Krewe du Vieux is the no-kids parade during Carnival, so in any given year it's going to be the raunchiest of the major parades. I saw it live in the Quarter this year. There was no shortage of papier-mâché genitalia. And, uh... Goodell was not spared.

I have now seen the float.

My premise that this little PR move (the only reason the announcement/meeting was held up, by the way) did nothing for the fans of the Saints holds.

I look forward to Goodell making a public appearance in New Orleans. I hope there are cameras around.

How does the NFL completely revamping their player conduct policy equate to having their cake and eating it too? Sounds more like they had a large slice of humble pie. Go to last post

You want to know what's really sad about this all.

Under Roger, NFL DV, which was already insanely low, has dropped.

Under Tags, the NFL had 6.1 DV arrests per year. 6 guys of 1800, one of the... Go to last post

Goodell is the worst. He hit Ray Rice's wife, beat AP's kids, he was driving Donte Stallworth's car, he's the real Ron Mexico, and he ate the last piece of pizza.
