The first news of the day came live on the Mike & Mike radio show for ESPN. Donald Driver is no longer going to be a Green Bay Packer. In fact, he announced his retirement on the air.

Driver spent 14 seasons playing any role asked of him in the Green Bay Packers receiving corps. He was always considered to be a hard worker on the field and a precise route runner, honing his game after being drafted in the 7th round out of Alcorn St. It took him four years of toiling near the bottom of the depth chart before he enjoyed his breakout season in 2002, leading the 12-4 Packers with 70 catches and over 1,000 yards with nine touchdowns. He would record six more 1,000 yard seasons during his final ten years. At the height of his career, Driver seemed to catch more 9 yard gains on 3rd & 8 than anyone in the league.

Recently, Driver's production and his role diminished as they naturally do with age. Also, Green Bay built a staunch depth chart at his position. His last 1,000 yard season came in 2009 and had 96 catches in the final three years of his career.

Driver will be remembered as the type of receiver any young player with long odds should emulate.

      Loved that man's smile.

FWIW: I have him as the 4th best Packers reciever .

Hutson, Sharpe, Lofton, Driver, and then likely Freeman (i waffled a bit on the 5th pick as there are a lot of options here).
