  • Woodson Cut, Clady Not Going Anywhere

There are not any stories to link on these two moves yet, but radio reports are saying that two major off-season questions have been answered today.

In an effort to save themselves something around $10MM, the Packers have cut cornerback Charles Woodson. Woodson had battled injuries a bit, playing just 7 games in 2012, but his versatility on the field has been a key cog for the Green Bay defense over the last seven seasons. Woodson has been an impact player and had nine interception return touchdowns along with a fumble return TD during his time playing his home games at Lambeau Field.

In Denver, reports are out that standout left tackle Ryan Clady is going to be given the franchise tag. Clady has gone to three Pro Bows in five years and is still in his prime. A lot of teams around the league are not surprised by the move, but can still be heard sighing sadly while holding back tears.

Would love to see Cincy sign Woodson. Put him at S for a year or 2 and let him mentor the young guys. Gives us the ball hawking S we need who can cover TE's, RB's and slot WR's.

No guarantees but 2 years ago Hawk was cut right before signing his contract. Will Woodson be back? I'd say it's unlikely, but possible.

Woodson will be not be out of work for long. A strong veteran presence would look nice in Cleveland or Buffalo or any one of a dozen other cities.

Woodson cut was not that surprising, and like other I think he could play at a good enough level for the next 2 years. It was apparant that he lost a little bit of a step on his coverage, but is smart enough like most veterans to be able to anticipate the play therefore be in good position to make up for his loss of speed.

Bob McGinn brought up the handshakes that Woodson started in 2009 or so in his podcast. I loved that way of handling a pick. The whole D running around and giving themselves handshakes after a takeaway, it was a wonderful thing to watch.

I don't know how the opposition felt about that but I really enjoyed it as a fan.

Woodson will likely price himself out of most jobs. He's just not the same guy he was even 2 years ago.
