• FP 2014 Upset Special Challenge, Week 8: I Need A Hero

It is Week 8 and we are stumbling in the backstretch; it sure does look like we all love parity. Only Hobbes and jfkaspar were brave enough to pick an upset this week, each riding the Dolphins to victory over the Bears. Nobody thought the Chiefs would knock off the Chargers. Most of the rest of us took the easy way out and maintained the status quo, i.e., don't look now but after 7 weeks there is a virtual 6 way tie with a whopping three wins. Swami is still technically in the lead, though it is hard to see him in such a tight pack. Normally I would expect Amy and xmen to start throwing Hail Marys about now, but The Zipper is pretty much third place. Standings when the 'eyz throws 'em up.

    Rules:
    • One pick per week
    • Your chosen team must be at least a (+3) underdog (Only games listed in this column are eligible)
    • Your chosen team must win the game outright (no 'pushes' or 'covers')
    • Season winner is the one with the most upsets correctly chosen between Week #1 through the Conference Championship Games (20 weeks all together)
    • There will be a points system to determine a winner in the event of a tie
    • Points will be accumulated by adding the game spreads for your correct picks (if you take Carolina (+4.5) and Carolina wins, you will be awarded a win and 4.5 points). Be careful making picks based on the number of points possible. Points only count if you are tied for the total wins lead when the whole contest is finished.
    • The No Upsets Option: Predict correctly that 'No Upsets' will occur in any given week and you will be awarded one win and a point total equal to the sum of all the spreads in that week's Upset Special. If you wish to exercise the 'No Upsets' Option, that prediction is due by 5 minutes prior to kickoff of the first game of the week in question. This includes Thursday Night Football or Saturday games. The 'No Upsets' option is confined to the Upset Possibilities listed in this article.
    • Picks are due no later than 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the broadcast time for your game. The FootballPros.com time stamp on your post is gospel.
    • Spread lines, once posted, will remain static throughout the week. This isn't The Sports Book at Caesar's Palace, after all.

    Let's. Get it. ON!!

    Week #8 Upset Special Possibilities

    Odds by OddsShark.
    All times Eastern.
    Underdogs in bold.

    Thursday Night Football

    San Diego (+6.5) @ Denver

    Sunday 1:00 Games

    • Detroit vs. Atlanta (+3) {*London}
    • Seattle @ Carolina (+3)
    Chicago (+7) @ New England
St. Louis (+6) @ Kansas City
    • Miami @ Jacksonville (+4)

    Sunday 4:15 Games

    Oakland (+7) @ Cleveland

    Monday Night Football (8:30 PM)

    Washington (+9) @ Dallas

    My Week #8 Upset Special:
In the COTL pool, I went with Chicago to trip up New England. I will maintain that pick here. New England is lacking Mayo, Jones, and half their offensive line. That means they will have trouble stopping Matt Forte in any way, and that the Patriots will not be perfect on offense, respectively. Bears (+7)

I picked quite a few underdogs this week, but none that are eligible to be selected here. I don't feel particularly good about any of these, though Chicago is intriguing.

I'm going to throw caution to the wind though and call for No Upsets

I will take Oakland because if the Browns screw that up, it's Jack Foosball time. That means more entertainment for me.

If Hoyer loses to two winless teams in a row, he deserved to be benched.

My charting skills may not be professional grade but I assure you that it involves no vomiting. Of course, if your Bears pick comes to fruition ...

Kaba solidified my pick. I need a win, and he went no upsets, which means that San Diego
is taking down Denver on Thursday night. Because that's how it works when someone takes "no upsets".

Getting to a point that I might as well use a magic eight ball to make my picks!
      Gimme the Rams!

BTW I've been getting mentioned on SI.com under my other internet pseudonym 'Headblade', about my views on the NFL & London! I'd love to hear from the folks on here about the idea!

I've been suggesting this very thing for awhile now, so I am in favor, obviously. Congrats on getting some dap from the MMQB. Good stuff.

Oh, and gimme the Jags (+4) at home.
