• Wagers & Lagers 2015 Week 11

No rest for the wicked. All three of us are as busy as all get out. Let's get to it.

    Redskins at Panthers (-7)

RG: Washington is one of those teams that can actually keep this close for a bit, but Kirk Cousins isn't facing the Saints defense this week. PICK: Panthers

PS: Yeah. I want to make myself believe in the 'Skins. Can't do it. PICK: Panthers

MK: The Redskins are 1-3-0 ATS on the road this season. Pass. PICK: Panthers

    Broncos (-1) at Bears, o/u 41.5

RG: So, we have seen several media persons sort of jump on the Bears hype train, but Brock Osweiler is still favored on the road. Weird. If anyone know him, it's the Bears staff. PICK: Bears, Under

PS: This is the the "Duh, it's a first-time starter going against hos former HC & OC" pick, right?
Duh. Or not. I really like what I have seen outta Chicago the last few weeks. Add in no Demarcus Ware, and I see a lock, here. PICK: Bears, Under

MK: I screamed that Denver wasn't really that good for weeks and weeks and kept irrationally picking against them. Now we're here and I don't even feel that great about it. Bears, Over

    Raiders (-2) at Lions

RG: Geez, a tough line. You could probably sell me on any outcome here. The Raiders have burned me a lot lately, but I'll give them one more shot. We can stop talking playoffs if they lose this one. PICK: Raiders

PS: This prideful group made Aaron Rodgers look positively pedestrian last week. PICK: Lions

MK: The Lions don't play two games like that in a row. The Raiders might not have Aaron Rodgers, but their receivers are a considerable upgrade over Green Bay's right now. PICK: Raiders

    Packers at Vikings (PK)

RG: Rodgers is going to stop relaxing in his recliner and tough out a win on the road. The Packers will refuse to go two games down in the division. PICK: Packers

PS: Absent a major shift in their offensive playcalling, the Packers have no shot against the Vikes. That Minny defense is nasty. PICK: Vikings

MK: I know the Packers have been pretty awful, but we'd be talking about four losses in a row here?PICK: Packers

    Bengals at Cardinals (-3)

RG: I' ll just take this moment to remind everyone that last Monday is why no one trusts the Bengals. The Cardinals might have the best coach in the NFC. PICK: Cardinals

PS: By every reasonable, available metric, the Cardinals are the better team and they get Cincy at home. What do I mean by "every reasonable, available metric"? Arizona has been able to resist getting its ass kicked in primetime. Carson and his Cannonballs are comin' for the Bengals. PICK: Cardinals

MK: That Sunday Night game between Arizona and Seattle was incredibly odd. The Cardinals controlled that game for about fifty five minutes, but the Hawks were so dominant for about five minutes that they had a legitimate chance to win. Cardinals

    Bills at Patriots (-7), o/u 48.5

RG: Is this the game where Rex Ryan is able to throw a successful wrinkle at the Pats? I don't think he has fully figured out his team. There seems to be something off with his defense this time around. That just means another 30 plus point game for the Pats. PICK: Pats, Over

PS: Yes. I always pick New England. Consistency is important. PICK: Patriots, Over

MK: Here's a great or terrible spot to go against the grain. Bills, Over

    GAMETIME GRUB

    PS:
    Wings, Biggie Style

    2 lbs. wings & drums
    1 cup balsamic vinegar
1 15 oz. can Mandarin oranges (juice and all - do not drain off the juice or you will hate this glaze)
    1 thinly sliced Vidalia onion
    6 cloves fresh chopped garlic
1 jar Marzetti's chunky bleu cheese dressing

Put everything (including the juice from the oranges) in your crock pot and cook uncovered on low for at least four hours. You are making a BBQ sauce so let it thicken to your liking. Once the sauce is close to your preferred consistency, take your stick blender and puree all the bits of onion, orange & garlic. Don't fret over the quantity, this sauce keeps for a long time and is fantastic on things like ribs & chops.

Take your chicken and hit it with a little salt & pepper and bake it on a racked pan (this lets the wings get crispy all the way around) at 365 degrees until they are done (time depends on size of wings).

Toss the wings in your glaze and serve with bleu cheese dressing and some celery sticks. I like to sprinkle sliced green onions on mine as well.

    BEER OF THE WEEK

PS:It's smooth. It's clean. It's hearty where it counts. Made in the Great Lakes Region.

    We give you Leinenkugel Red.

    STANDINGS

    RG: 5-4-0 LW, 39-38-0 overall

    MK: 5-4-0 LW, 38-39-0 overall

    PS: 5-4-0 LW, 35-42-0 overall

With regard to Denver, I think it's the Denver defense against Chicago more than Osweiler. I think Denver will win today because of the defense.

I also have to say that, as much as I love living in New England, the beer choices you guys pick sometimes makes me wish I lived in the midwest!

BTW, the recipe states "put everything" in the pot. I guess I just assumed it would be obvious the bleu cheese dressing is a dip. Don't put it in the pot. That would be gross.

@Amy -- Midwesterners are not blessed with much. Our beer, however, is world class. An abundance of fresh water. Some of he world's most fertile land. The Great Lakes Brewing Company, Founders, Bell's, Dragonmead, Leinenkugel, Surly, Minneapolis Town Hall, Dark Horse, Pipeworks,, New Glarus, Goose Island, Kuhnhenn... I could go on. This list is long and distinguished.

Justin Forsett broke his arm and is out for the game, and probably much longer.

In officiating news, Jerome Boger's crew has thrown 7 flags in the first quarter of Washington/Carolina (which is a good game!), putting him on a pace for 28 for the game.

Wow. I don't know who was worse with clock management. With no timeouts, down 3, and with less than a minute to play, Atlanta coverts a 3rd and 10 with about a 15 yard catch. The play ended with 37 seconds left.

Now, in the next 26 seconds, everyone messed up clock management,

First, Ryan lines up in the shotgun, and by the time the ball is spotted and he arranges everyone, 20 seconds are lost. He snaps the ball at 17. Remember, you cannot spike from the gun, so lining up in the gun is always going to force you to snap not spike.

A good team can get 2 plays, sometimes 3 off in 20 seconds in a 2 minute drive.

This was compounded by the refs. After the play, Julio tosses the ball to a ref who drops it. A Colt then kicks the ball! Under two minutes, if the defense kicks a ball when the clock is running, it's delay of game on the defense! It should have been a clock stoppage (around :31 seconds) and a 5 yard advance for Atlanta.

After the Falcons run a fast pass play, leaving :11 second lest, the Colts call timeout. While the Falcons had gone OOB, so the clock was stopped, the timeout let the Falcons have time to chat on the sidelines. It didn't cost the Colts, but was still very poor decision making.

      Fails for all!

Well, at least the Colts finally listened to me about using their tight ends more! Coby Fleener is obviously the best safety on the team!!!

I don't know whether I'm more surprised at how great the Panthers looked or how bad Washington looked. I keep predicting a letdown, and I'm glad to be wrong. The Thursday game at Dallas is a tall order now that Romo is back, but I'd like nothing more than to see them beat up on the Hardy-loving Cowgirls. It would be nice to see Peanut Tillman back, not certain of the severity of his injury.
It may be time for me to stop complaining about the WR situation. Ginn and Cotchery have been better than I expected (though Ginn is a personal favorite, despite his questionable hands) and Funchess has clearly started to figure things out. I can't help but wonder what the passing game would look like with both Funchess and Benjamin out there.

Joe Flacco tore his ACL late in the win over the Rams. He's done for the season.

Bridgewater hurt on a sack. It looks to be a left arm injury. Shaun Hill is in while Bridgewater is being evaluated.

Bridgewater is back in the game. Whatever the injury was, it doesn't seem to have been serious.

Rough, rough year for me. At this point, I am hoping to get above .500. We are all on AZ tonight, so that will be a wash. Matt can take control if BUF covers or wins and the MNF game is a low-scoring defensive battle.

The Bills played amazing defense. That said....

Give us a break. Injuries are all over the offense. By the end of the game we were down to 2 healthy receivers, Brandon LaFell and Chris Harper. If Dobson and Danny are going to be out a while, it might be time to call Randy Moss and see if he is in game shape, and, no, I am not joking. The line is a play by play work in progress, Jamie Collins has missed three games with a virus.

I really really wish that Kenbrell Thompkins was on our practice squad and not the Jets roster.

If we get the repeat this season, it'll be one of the most impressive runs ever.
