I wasn't expecting the Tops brand recommendation. I used to drink quite a lot of Tops lemon lime soda when i was a wee young lad. Thanks for the info.

Root Beer. Odd, but interesting. What others do you recommend? My wife likes Root Beer.

How to approach every play...

by ScottDCP on 12-28-2016 at 04:35 PM
The game is on the line. Every play of every game, the game is on the line.

Of course, only the head coach should use that approach. If players lived that way most of them would freeze just enough to get beat on every play.

Just as a quarterback should never throw over the middle late in a play, a coach should never punt on fourth and short with 4 minutes left in overtime during a game when a loss or tie knocks my team out of the playoffs. ESPECIALLY when our defense

Different sadness.

by ScottDCP on 09-16-2016 at 11:48 PM
My nephew ended his life last week. He was desperately lonely and sad for years. His dad died last year, his mother has been gravely Ill for a long time, and was never much for him to begin with. He had nobody. Noone really ever made an effort to see him, join him, or get him to join them once his step brothers got older and got married/ effectively married. We as his extended family certainly didn't help much. I feel badly about it but mostly in a selfish way. He had clearly been working up to

This has nothing to do with football.

A friend I hold dear has been gravely ill for his entire life, and acutely so for the past three weeks. This afternoon he was taken off a ventilator. There is no expectation of recovery.

He is 32. The bulk of his medical difficulties have been present since he started out, but he wore himself down producing a play this summer. Given his starting point of poor health, bionical heart parts, and history of infection in said parts it became clear about halfway through this hospital stay

Incorporating rookies...

by ScottDCP on 05-14-2016 at 10:34 PM
A quickie. I had never giveneed it much thought, but I like what Jacksonville and either Miami or Tampa are doing this year, and I think the Rams have done before. There is no good reason to have rookies going full speed at anything on day one, especially when they have spent zero time in your strength and conditioning program. The come in and first order of business is making sure their heads are on straight. Get them started on Co ditioning, get the most started on playbook, and get them started

Milk Duds

by ScottDCP on 04-14-2016 at 07:52 AM
I have no idea why, but I woke up this morning with a vision of Jeff Van Gundy riding Alonzo Mourning's leg.

For those not familiar with him, he is an announcer for NBA games on some network that broadcasts those things. Dig a little deeper and he is a little bit remarkable in modern day team sport coaching ascension.

In reverse order, he was the Head Coach of the Houston Rockets.
Head Coach of New York Knicks.
Assistant Coach New York Knicks under Pat
