You voted & AP voted for Aaron Rodgers as the 2011 NFL MVP. He certainly deserved it, without a doubt. BUT since Tom Brady was a consideration & he's in the Super Bowl, would that sway your vote at all? What if Brady gets Super Bowl MVP tonight? Should voting be held until after the entire season is over? Rodgers earned it fair & square, but this is a fair argument.

You say its a fair argument, then in the same paragraph imply we should consider post season performance. If its fair, how can you give extra credit to guys who played in games others couldnt? Its a regular season award. Judging everyone over the same time frame. That's why there's a sb mvp award. To award the best player in the biggest post season game.

If you include the post season 30/32 teams are excluded from the final game. 28/32 from the champ games. 24/32 from the divisional games. Is it fair if a player is excluded from an apples to apples discussion when over 85% of the players couldn't be judged on the final 3 games? It would add far too much bias to the post season. If that were the case, the 2 guys with the most pelts on their walls mvp wise, wouldn't have nearly as many pelts.

As long as these awards are voted during the regular season people will disagree with the results. The ultimate goal in football is wins. These awards should be voted on during the two week bye before the Super Bowl.

A player that has a great regular season and then sucks in the playoffs isn't an MVP in my eyes.

If it includes the playoffs, I guarantee you that 50% AT LEAST would go to the winning QB of the SB. Keep it regular season.

I can see your point, but in the same respect find it totally irrational. One or two good games does not make you more valuable than a guy who carried his team for 16 games prior. Nor should it.. case in point. This year. Would the playoffs have changed the vote at all? Comparing apples to apples between the two highest vote getters, nothing would have changed. Both were less than stellar in the divisonal round.

I prefer to rely on 16 games of data, instead of a few extra game anomalies in the playoffs when 85% of the possible candidates are excluded. Given the playoffs would the vote have swayed to brees for mvp? I think not! It would have highlighted his dink and dunk game and shown his total inability to throw a ball over 15 yds to anyone who wasn't wide open. Even when he did complete them it was under thrown. Watch the lions and niners games. Brees is captain throw a pass under 5 yds.

There can be a great player on a losing team and an average player on a winning team. Though not "average", would anybody here honestly give Manning the MVP for the season? He "won when it mattered" but he didn't do anything spectacular. Regular season is the only fair way to do it because there are 1,060 players who don't make the playoffs every year. Our minds get skewed by the whole thought process of "good players on good teams > great players on bad teams". I mean just think of MJD. When you think of great NFL backs, you think of AP, Foster, or Rice before you think of MJD. He's forgotten in Jax.
