As much as the thought of sending 4 picks and a player and $$ to the steelers appeals to me as a steeler fan for the boys to move back, I don't think the commish would have ok'd the trade. Although for a while it was bizarro world draft and it would have fit right in.

I actually wasn't referring to that as the primary basis. I know my view there isn't shared by many. I was more referring to 2 guards going top 7 and a team with no need whatsoever picking Rg3 instead of kalil, a position of extreme need when no trade partners. It would be nice if people read what they saw, and stopped inferring what they think someone meant.
But since you brought it up 1st round backs are crazy over rated and mostly over drafted. Esp with the evolution of offensive football. There's way more studs found in the other rounds. I know the percentages play to this, but unless a guy is special he's not worth a 1st round pick. Add to that the limited life span of a back. Most don't make it out of their 1st contract. My team is a perfect example.
Fast Willie was an udfa. Total beast till he got hurt. Mendenhall fell down far to us. Best guy on our board by far. He's been good, but not great. Not as good as a healthy Willie, and I'd venture to say not as good as his replacement, another udfa redman. Not worth where we picked him, for sure eventhough he was by far the best player on the board. He was supposed to go top 10-15. This is before we extrapolate that Richardson sat behind ingram who had a less than inspiring rookie year. My opinion is backs are never worth a 1st rounder, unless its a special guy. Same with receivers. They're complimentary pieces, not corner stones.. stl isn't in a position to be acquiring complementary pieces.
The second worst team in the league this year, and the worst 3 years ago is in no position to pick guys that aren't cornerstones.
