It’s guest breakdown time! With the Pats on the bye, I’m with the Skins and Panthers today. The broadcast team is Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa. It’s a team I like and don’t get to hear often, so that makes me happy.

Panthers D1: Start at the 20.

1st and 10: Williams for 30, TD! 7-3 Panthers. Panthers running game is coming to life. There was some sort of whistle on the play, but Williams was never out of bounds, so the ruling was correct.

Skins D2: Start at the 20.

1st and 10: Morris for 4. Before the play, the Fox crew showed us the Panthers running backs chatting on the sidelines, and Goose points out ‘you can win with those guys. ‘ It seems you can – once.
End of the first.
2nd and 6: Morris for 8. While it didn’t matter, the refs missed that the Panthers were offside.
The crew keeps jabbering about the whistle blowing on the Williams run, even though it didn’t matter. Move on.
1st and 10: Morris for 12

1st and 15: Time out Washington.
1st and 15: RG3 to Morgan, incomplete. Personal Foul on Nakamura. Good call. He popped Morgan in the head. Penalties are hurting the Panthers D.

3rd and 9: Cam for 6, scramble under pressure. Davis of the Panthers down.
4th and 3: Carolina timeout, after the injury timeout. Rivera may not be good at clock management. Davis looks ok on the sidelines.

2nd and 9: Cam to Tolbert, 7. Kenny called the Carolina TD ‘contreversial’, even though it wasn’t. Give it rest, the side judge blew a whistle by accident, it had no effect, get over it.
3rd and 2: Cam for 13, designed run
1st and 10: Cam avoids the rush, scrambles for 4
2nd and 6: Cam for 0 on one of those option runs where he waits forever to decide if he’s gonna hand off or not. I think – and I could be wrong – that he needs to be more decisive on the option.

1st and 10: Cam to Stewart, 6. Cam should have been sacked, but flipped the ball first.
2nd and 4: Cam to Smith, low, incomplete. Fletcher called for personal foul on contact to the helmet on Cam. Terrible call. The ref should be fined.

2nd and 6: Cam to Olson, 8
1st and 10: Cam to Smith, pass defended by Wilson. Wilson called for PI. Another bad call. Smith was within 5 yards, contact was legal.

Redskins D3: Start at the 5 after a squib kick and an illegal block in the back call on the Skins.

Halftime. Carl Jeffers crew has been terrible in this half.

Amy note: Does anyone else get annoyed when Fox goes to Mike Periera for comments on the refs. He put all the current refs into their jobs, he’s not going to call them out, it’s a conflict of interest! If they suck, that means he did! Now, he did, but he’s not going to admit it. The idea of an ‘officiating guru’ is a good one, but don’t hire one who is inherently biased.

Redskins D4: Start at the 22

1st and 10: RG3 to Morgan, 1
2nd and 9: Morris for 18. He made a guy miss in the backfield.
1st and 10: Morris for 0
2nd and 10: RG3 to Paulsen, 14. Great catch. Rivera challenges. I think the call will stand, and I’m not sure it’s worth risking a timeout on Carl Jeffers judgment at this point in the game. It’s Rivera’s first challenge of the season, which is another telling stat for why the Panthers are so bad. The play is reversed, so maybe it wasn’t a bad challenge after all.
3rd and 10: RG3 sacked, -7, by Johnson.

Redskins D5: Start at the 23. Bad decision making by Washington’s punt returner cost them about 10 yards.

To just show how little the refs are paying attention, Paulsen tosses the ball to the umpire, who is not paying attention, and gets hit in the eye by the ball. He’s fine.

3rd and 4: RG3’s pass almost picked by Norman. Moss was the target and is shaken up.

1st and 10: RG3 tosses a 1 yard pass to Banks, who runs around and loses 9 yards. Game over. I dislike the playcall, and Banks has to know to not aimlessly run around here.

RG3 is fun to watch. Carl Jeffers is not. Overall, I liked this game.
