In my money league - I am 6-5 (3 game losing streak) and riddled with injuries. McCoy, Antonio Brown, Aaron Hernandez, Roethlisberger and Jennings.

My other QB is Freeman, but today I snagged Kaepernick and am giving serious thought to starting him.

I can see the argument for Kaepernick in that situation. Doug Martin should be in line for a huge week, limiting Freeman's potential. However, and I posted this in the council picks as well, Matt Berry threw out an interesting stat yesterday. Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams are both among the top 20 in targets outside the numbers. The Falcons, who have been excellent against the pass this year, allow the 2nd highest completion percentage outside the numbers. So Freeman should have some opportunities.

That said, I think it's very close. Freeman is the safer of the 2 options, but I don't think you'd simply be trying to be a hero by playing Kaepernick. If you need 250 and a TD or 2 from your QB, go Freeman. If you need to take a chance on a huge day, I'd consider Kaepernick.

I just picked him up as well in my money league, where I have Roethlisberger as a backup. But my starter is Aaron Rodgers, so Kaepernick starting isn't a consideration.

I have Eli Manning, but am currently without a backup. I kept Cutler on my roster all season, only starting him once or so, but he get a concussion right as Manning went to a bye. Not too many quarterbacks were available, but I survived starting Brandon Weeden against Dallas. I picked up Kaepernick right after he was named the starter on Wednesday or so, and am considering rolling the dice with him.

I have, I think, the better two between the two of us this week, but he owns Brady and the Pats D, so he benefited a ton from that massacre last night, and he's a Dez Bryant owner too. I think Kaepernick, because of his running ability, might have a higher ceiling than Manning and if there's a time to chuck up a Hail Mary, it's when your opponent starts Thursday with an 88 point day.

Who is more likely to put up 300 and 3? That's what I'd be looking at. Kaepernick has become a very sexy name. If you think he's more likely for those numbers, with the added rushing totals he'll give, go for it. Eli's struggled, but I think this is a big rebound week for the Giants, especially offensively. Even in your situation I'd probably play Manning, but you know your roster and what you need more than I do.

Consider this. What if Kaepernick gives you 250, 40 yds rushing, and 2 TDs? That would be a very good day, and yet, you would still likely end up regretting not having Manning in your back pocket for Sunday night. And is that more likely than Kaepernick putting up 350/50/and 3 scores, which would give you regret the other way.

Another thing to consider. Who's more likely to put up 150 and 2? Gore/Hunter or Bradshaw/Brown?

I may be wrong, but it would be very tough for me to bench Eli in a likely shoot out.

Kaepernick has clearly become the interesting name this week. If you need a home run, I'd absolutely consider him in place of Dalton, Newton, Freeman, and possibly Andrew Luck (the Bills have actually been pretty tough against the pass in recent weeks). I still have him ranked lower than all 4, because I think they're all safer, but if you become desperate for a huge week, why not roll the dice?

But keep in mind, Harbaugh is still playing his mind games, and has yet to officially name Kaepernick the starter. Plus, Smith looks like he's been cleared, so there's always the chance for a quick hook if Kaepernick struggles a bit early and the Niners find themselves behind.

Well, Eli Manning is my 'safe' option, Brandon Weeden is my 'pray' option (maybe saving him for that Raiders game next week), and Colin Kaepernick is my 'swing-for-the-fences' option.

Manning has been really shaky and, frankly, not very dependable this season. As I said, I'm behind the eight ball because of Thursday, when my opponent started Tom Brady, the New England Defense, and Dez Bryant. Owen Daniels even added a touchdown. On my end, Calvin Johnson, Jason Witten, and Jason Hanson had a respectable day in sum, but I'm still way back. I've got Adrian Peterson and Benjarvus Green-Ellis has a great matchup against Oakland; I have Arizona's defense in a favorable matchup against St. Louis; my other receivers are stacked--Cobb, Decker, either Steve Smith or Josh Gordon in the flex--too. Normally, I'd consider Manning, but it's unlikely you dig yourself out of a 55-point whole anyway and I'm considering going for the big payoff with Kaepernick instead of a probably acceptable performance from Manning which won't help me win anyway. Maybe I should just assess things as the one o'clock window closes and see what I need, whether it's just play for the points to win tiebreakers or if I have a legitimate shot at the game, and let that direct my move.

It's all about gut. Gotta make the call you're most comfortable with. I see a big rebound performance from Manning this week, as I said. But I'll agree that it's very difficult to not see Kaepernick having success against the Saints. He just seems a little too Dave Kingman for me at this point, especially considering this is only start #2, and his first start on the road.

Good luck with whatever decision you end up making. I've had a few of those improbable weeks this year (Aaron Rodgers with a 59 pt effort on Sunday night to help me win by 2), so maybe this week becomes yours.

For the record, I'd go Steve Smith over Josh Gordon, and it's not close in my view. With the Eagles having quit, there's always the chance he could find a broken coverage or 6.

Yeah, Manning is probably the right play--it's just that in his last three games he's scored 5.98, 3.0, and 2.7 points. Somehow, I won one of those games (the middle one). I just don't want to try to do that again.

You make a good point about Smith. And the weather is probably going to be crappy in Cleveland tomorrow. I just started going with Gordon right as he got into his touchdown phase and have reflexively kept him in the lineup because Steve Smith is allergic to the end zone this season.
