    Monday Night! Houston!

It's a big game, though bigger for them. If we win, we're the #2 seed, and one behind them with three to go. If we lose, we're the 4 seed, as the Ravens have the tiebreaker. We have it over Denver, but they'd have one less loss. With Edleman out for the year, we signed Donte Stallworth. I wonder why we didn't bring Branch back. Obviously Tirico and Gruden are the booth. Bolden is back from Adderall suspension, Mankins and Chandler Jones are also back from injury. Terry McCauley is the ref.

10 minutes after scheduled game start and no kick off yet. Two bad music scenes, some innance patter fron Chucky, and a commercial break though.

Texans D1: Start at the 20

1st and 10: Foster, 12. Nice run. Negated by illegal formation, offense. Brown was lined up wrong.
1st and 15: Foster, 15. Another nice run.
1st and 10: Pats take timeout. Ok, not a good start. Five commercials, and a Tirico direct TV plug for a 30 second timeout. It's a little excessive ESPN. We find out we called time to avoid
12 men on D. So, we never should have gone to commerical at all.
    1st and 10: Foster, -1
    2nd and 11: Foster, 5
3rd and 6: Schaub to Jean, inc. Arrington defended the pass.
    4th and 6: Punt

Pats D1: Start at the 44 after a sweet Welker punt return.

1st and 10: Ridley, 4. We almost miss the play since we're coming back from commerical
    2nd and 6: Ridley, 13
1st and 10: Ridley, 4. He pushed the pile at least 2 yards.
2nd and 6:Brady to Hernandez, incomplete
3rd and 6: Brady to Slater, overthrow. Defensive Holding, Harris on Welker
    1st and 10: Brady to Welker, 25
1st and goal: Ridley fumbles, Hernandez recovers, -3. Manning forced the fumble.
2nd and goal: Brady to Hernandez, 7, TD! Great plays Aaron! 7-0 Pats!

Texans D2: Start at the 20

    1st and 10: Schaub to Jonhson, 8
    2nd and 2: Schaub to Forsett, 15
    1st and 10: Schaub to Daniels, 13
1st and 10: Schaub sacked by Scott and Ninkovitch, -4
    2nd and 14: Foster, 2
3rd and 12: Schaub to Jean, 24. Declined offsides on Pats
    1st and 10: Foster, 2
2nd and 8: Devin intetrcepts Schaub in the Endzone!

Pats D2: Start at the 18

1st and 10: Brady incomplete, under pressure.
2nd and 10: Ridley blown up by Watt and others,0
    3rd and 10: Brady to Lloyd, 13
    1st and 10: Brady to Woodhead, 18
    1st and 10: Brady to Hernandez, 14
1st and 10: Brady to Lloyd, 37, TD! 14-0 Pats

Texans D3: Start at the 25. Nice return.

    1st and 10: Schaub to Johnson, 16
1st and 10: Foster, -3. Hightower with the play.
    2nd and 13: Foster, 1
3rd and 12: Schaub Fumbles! Houston recovers at the 19, but the'll need to punt. Vince forces it.
    4th and lots: Punt

Pats D3: Start at the 29. Great special teams play by the Texans.

    End of the 1st

1st and 10: Woodhead, 5. We miss the start of the play
2nd and 5: Ridley, -3. Quinn makes the play.
    3rd and 8: Brady to Hernandez, 10
    1st and 10: Ridley, 2
2nd and 8: Brady to Hernandez, -2. Great plays by the Texans. Watt and Quinn make them.
3rd and 10: Brady deep to Welker, incomplete. DPI called on Manning, I agree with Chucky that it's a bad call.
    1st and 10: Brady to Welker, 15.
    1st and 10: Brady to Welker, 11
1st and goal: Brady to Hernandez, 4, TD! 21-0.

This drive was kept alive by the bad call, but, at the same time, Manning can't bump Welker and risk the flag.

Texans D4: Start at the 20.

    1st and 10: Schaub to Foster, 6
    2nd and 4: Foster, 0
3rd and 4: Schaub pass knocked down by Vince!
    4th and 4: Punt!

Pats D4: Start at the 33.

    1st and 10: Ridley, 2
    2nd and 8: Brady to Hernandez, 6
3rd and 2: Brady to Lloyd, incomplete. James applied pressure.
    4th and 2: Punt.

Texans D5: Start at the 11.

    1st and 10: Schaub to Johnson, 25
1st and 10: Schaub to Foster, dropped
    2nd and 10: Schaub to Johnson, 9
    3rd and 1: Foster, 6
    1st and 10: Schaub to Foster, 3
2nd and 7: Foster, 9. Really good run.
1st and 10: Schuab pass batted by Jones, incomplete
2nd and 10: Forsett, -2. Vince and Mayo with the play.
3rd and 12: Schaub to Jean, 7. Texans take timeout to get set for a 4th down attempt.
4th and 5: Schaub to Walter, incomplete!

Pats D5: Start at the 33

1st and 10: Brady to Lloyd, just a little high.
2nd and 10: Vereen, 4. We missed this snap. This is inexcusible in December. We've had 3 missed, or close to missed, snaps. Serious lack of professionism by ESPN.
3rd and 6: Brady to Lloyd, 10. Negated by OPI on Aaron. Good call.
3rd and 16: Brady to Woodhead, incomplte. Bad throw by Brady.
    4th and 16: Punt.

    We blew an opportunity there.

Texans D6: Start at the 34, after an ugly Mesko punt.

1st and 10: Schaub to Foster on the Ray Rice screen, 21
1st and 10: Schaub to Foster, incomplete
2nd and 10: Pats timeout, 2:38 in the half. We have 1 left.
    2nd and 10: Foster, 0
3rd and 10: Offsides on Scott.
3rd and 5: Schaub to Johnson, great pass breakup, and almost a pick by Talib. Talib hurt, Pats lose timeout #3.
4th and 5: Schaub to Walter, overthrown!

Pats D6: Start at the 38

    1st and 10: Vereen, 1
    2nd and 9: Brady to Lloyd, 6
3rd and 3: Brady to Hernandez, Quinn defends the pass nicely.
    4th and 3: Punt

Texans D7: Start at the 20. Texans have 2 timeouts and 41 seconds.

    1st and 10: Schaub to Daniels, 11.
1st and 10: Schaub to Johnson, Dennard breaks the pass up
2nd and 10: Schaub to Jean, way too high, incomplete.
    3rd and 10: Foster, 9.

    Half ends.

A good first half, but the Houston D is playing better in the second half. Our last 3 drives were 3 and out, and I don't think we've had 3 3 and outs in a game all season. We need at least 2 more TDs, and we need a couple real drives, especially if Talib is out the rest of the way.

I guess I don't understand why it's a bigger game for Houston. 11-1 with three manageable games ahead.I'd have thought NE would have more to gain with a win. They're certainly playing like it.

Perception. Houston is perceived, with some legitimacy, that they're a soft 11-1. Their one big shot, against GB, they blew. In their other big game, they played a Chicago team that was forced to resort to Jason Campbell. To lay two national TV stinkers in their two biggest games of the year doesn't mean any more than losing at any other time. But perception will make it worse, until they win a big game in January.

NE always dials up for games like this. Houston is getting a lesson in what "dialed up" means.

Halftime: Matt Light is becoming the 5th Patriot since Gillette opened to spend his whole career with the team and be honored at halftime. But, I don't get to see it since ESPN is (and to be fair, other networks would also be), too dumb to show it to Patriot area fans, Instead, I get to hear stories on the halftime show I saw at noon on ESPN.com. Joy.

Additional halftime notes: Texans are 2 of 10 and 3rd and 4th down. Pats are 4 of 7.

Pats D7: Start at the 20

1st and 10: Brady to Welker, barely overthrown. Incomplete.
    2nd and 10: Vereen, 9
    3rd and 1: Vereen, 4
1st and 10: Brady to Welker, very high, incomplete
    2nd and 10: Vereen, 2.
Tirico lets us know that Talib's return is questionable. Not good news.
3rd and 8: Brady to Stallworth, Donte should have had it! It went through his hands.
4th and 8: Punt. We need better drives.

Texans D8: Start at the 9, after a short return and holding on Quinn.

    1st and 10: Foster, 3
2nd and 7: Foster, -2. Deaderick with the stop.
3rd and 9: Schaub to Johnson, 8! Great tackle by Dennard! He's having a great rookie year, especially for a 7th rounder who was injured the first 5 games of the year.
    4th and 1: Punt

Pats D8: Start at the 26

1st and 10: Brady deep to Vereen, incomplete. Watt's getting lots of pressure, but no sacks. Still is having an impact.
    2nd and 10: Brady to Hernandez, 11
1st and 10: Brady to Welker, dropped
2nd and 10: Brady to Welker, dropped
3rd and 10: Brady to Stallworth, 63, TD! Welcome back Donte! 28-0 Pats! We only took a minute off the clock on the drive, but we got points. Still, we need a sustained drive or two.

Texans D9: Start at the 12

1st and 10: Schuab to Johnson, 17. Declined hands to the face on Hightower.
    1st and 10: Schuab to Johnson, 4
2nd and 6: Schaub to Johnson, dropped. DPI called on Arrington. Bad call, I think, so now it's even.
1st and 10: Tate, 23. Terrible defense on that play.
1st and 10: Schaub to Jean, incomplete, in addition, OPI on Jean. Good call. Former ref Gerry Markbright diagreed, thinking it was DPI because Arrington didn't play the ball. Which was true, he didn't play the ball, because Jean pushed him down! Clear OPI, thank goodness Markbright's retired.
    1st and 20: Schaub to Foster, 7
2nd and 13: Schaub to Casey, lots.
1st and goal: 12 men on D, 1 yard call. On yet another lack of professionalism note, Tirico has actually done play by play on less then a dozen plays tonight.
1st and goal: Schaub throw away, no grounding call, even though the closest guy was the left tackle and he was under pressure in the pocket.
2nd and goal: Foster, 1 TD. 28-7 Pats.

Pats D9: Start at the 20.

1st and 10: Brady to Welker, off his hands.
    2nd and 10: Brady to Lloyd, 7
3rd and 3: Brady sacked by Mercyless, -8. Cool name. Bad drive.
4th and 11: Punt. The offense needs to step it up. We only took 1:22 off the clock on this drive.

Texans D10: Start at the 19 after an illegal block in the back. Houston's special teams are playing bad, on the disclipline side of things. 3 penalties on punt returns.

    1st and 10: Schaub to Johnson, 8
2nd and 2: Schaub to Tate, -2. Mayo forced a fast throw, Hightower made the tackle.
3rd and 4: Schaub to Martin, Arrington defended the pass!
    4th and 4: Punt

Pats D10: Start at the 28.

    1st and 10: Ridley, 2
2nd and 8: Brady deep to 47, incomplete. Illegal contact, Sharton.
    1st and 10: Brady to Hernandez, 9
    2nd and 1: Ridley, 3
    1st and 10: Brady to Lloyd, 14
    1st and 10: Ridley, 4
2nd and 6: Ridley, 1. Why did we snap with 22 second on the play clock?
3rd and 5: Brady, 6. Good non call on a hit on Brady after he slid.

    End of the third

1st and 10: Brady to Hernandez, 18 negated by holding on both teams. (Quinn and Volmer)
1st and 10: Brady to Welker, dropped. Wes is off tonight.
2nd abnd 10: Brady to Woodhead, makes two men miss, the ball is punched out by Watt after 17 yards , and Lloyd recovers it in the endzone! TD Pats! 35-7, Pats! We took a little over 4 minutes off the clock and got the lead back to 28.

Texans D11: Start at the 20

    1st and 10: Tate, 10. He's good!
    1st and 10: Tate, 8
    2nd and 2: Tate, 1
    3rd and 1: Tate, -1! Great stand!
    4th and 2: Punt

Pats D11: Start at the 32 after a bad punt.

    1st and 10: Ridley, 6
    2nd and 4: Brady to Lloyd, 7
    1st and 10: Ridley, 4
2nd and 6: Ridley, 8. Slow the pace own, O. Bleed the clock. Get both teams home healthy.
    1st and 10: Vereen, 11
    1st and 10: Brady to Lloyd, 3
    2nd and 7: Vereen, 7
    1st and 10: Ridley, 4
    2nd and 6: Ridley, 2
    3rd and 4: Ridley, 14, TD!! 42-7 Pats! We've sent a message tonight!

Texans D12: Start at the 20. Martin almost came out of the endzone and then back in, which would have been a safety. Yates is in.

1st and 10: Tate, 5, on a great run and a facemask on Chung.
1st and 10: Tate, -2. Mayo *crushed* him!
2nd and 12: Yates to Martin, -4. McCourty with the tackle.
    3rd and 16: Forsett, 4
    4th and 12: Punt

Pats D12: Start at the 10. Mallet's in.

    1st and 10: Bolden, 5. Brandon's back!
    2nd and 5: Bolden, 7
1st and 10: Bolden, 16, negated by holding offense.
    1st and 20: Vereen, 2
2nd and 18: Malltet to Shaincoe, off Shaincoe's hands and intercepted.

Texans D13: Start at the Pats 25

    1st and 10: Forsett, 3
2nd and 7: Yates to Posey, incomplete
    3rd and 7: Yates to Posey, 19
1st and goal: Yates to Martin, incomplete
    2nd and goal: Tate, 1
    3rd and goal: Timeout, Texans.
3rd and goal: Yates, 1, TD. 42-14, Pats.

Pats D13: Start at the 9

    1st and 10: Kneel
    2nd and 11: Kneel
3rd and 12: Kneel. Game over.

Texans finish 4 of 16 on 3rd and 4th. We were not much better, at 6 of 14. But we get the win, and the 2 seed, and we're just game back. If they lose to Indy next week and we beat the 49ers, we'd be the 1 seed. Overall, we didn't play great, I don't think, but we smacked down the best team in he AFC. Good job Pats! Bring on the 49ers!

ESPN fixed it's missing snaps issue, but Tirico was terrible. It's really not hard to actually do the play by play. He did it on 23 total plays, both teams combined. He didn't do a single play by play call until the Pats second drive, which was the fourth total drive of the game. Gruden was mostly good, and Tirico was ok with his back and forth, but, really, the play by play guy has to do *play by play*. It's a really simple concept.

I don't think it was a bigger game for them, Wax, but it was what Houston was saying all week. Andre Johnson called it the 'biggest game in franchise history', so I had to lead off my game intro with it. As for 3 manageable games for the Texans, they have the Colts twice, and I wouldn't be shocked to see a split there.

Oooh, I hadn't seen that. Not so good.

The Texans didn't care tonight. Why the hell are they taking Foster out before the Pats take Brady out?
