I will take this opportunity to float my suspicion.

I think Jim Kelly has put together a group to buy the Bills, and it will happen this offseason. I think one of the layers will be Tom Golisano, who likes being a hero up here (held the Sabres together for a few years until a more interested party bought them.)

I may be wrong. Oh no.

I also think Mr. Wilson will be part of the new ownership group, as a gesture of respect. The deal will serve the purposes of

1. Reducing the tax burden Mr. Wilson doesn't want his family to deal with
2. Giving Mr. Wilson a say in who gets the team next
3. Selling season tickets next year
4. Convincing the fans that the team will be staying 87.5% in Buffalo for the foreseeable future (new lease can be broken.)

If it happens, I hope the new group has two things: solid financing and a clear leadership structure.

OK, so Russ Brandon, the marketing guy who failed utterly as GM in 200something and had to be moved aside for Marv Levy, has been named team president, de facto owner from a decision-making perspective. Did he marry Wilson's granddaughter or something? This should be lousy.
