San Diego hires Whisenhunt as OC

I'm with the author, here - that's a great hire for SD.

Rivers has regressed over the last couple of years. I'll be interested to see what Whisenhunt can do with him.

Concur. Odd that nobody wanted him as a head coach. Seems to me he extracted everything he could out of his guys. What more could you ask for?

Except his QBs. Aside from Warner, Whisenhunt did nothing with a single one of his QBs. I think he'll get a second chance, down the road, and I think he deserves one, but how many guys did he strike out with? And with the exception (I believe) of Leinart, he picked all those QBs, either via the draft, trades, or free agency.

Not his GM? I hadn't realized they gave him that much say. If true, excellent point about his ability to judge talent.

I'm pretty sure that Rod Graves, the former GM, was in charge of all personnel decisions for the Cardinals. He had been in his post for a long time before Whisenhunt showed up, if I remember correctly.

Will Whisenhunt run Reid's WCO or the Steeler's vertical game?

I also wonder if Russ Grimm will follow Whisenhunt to San Diego, or if McCoy has other ideas in mind. As bad as the OL was in Arizona the past couple years, I think that has to do more with the team's inability to find talent than Grimm's ability to coach and develop them. Only so much a coach can do.
