Ben Watson, now of the Ravens, tore his ACL on the first play of the game against the Lions and is out for the season.

That hurts with Watson, I was high on him this year. The guy never got the credit he deserved.

Armin Tehrany, founder of Manhattan Orthopedic Care, said the non-contact injury that Bridgewater sustained Tuesday is generally more complicated than the usual anterior cruciate ligament tear. Bridgewater had to be transported from the Vikings’ practice facility and sedated after he crumpled to the turf. The team said an MRI revealed a dislocated knee, tears to the ACL and other structural damage.

But as bad as it sounds, the injury could have been worse. The Vikings announced “there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage.”

“When a knee gets dislocated, the blood supply gets interrupted and, slowly but surely, there’s risk of losing the leg,” Tehrany said. “The other possibility is nerve damage, which the team ruled out. You have to monitor that kind of damage closely.

“This isn’t the typical ACL repair from a non-contact injury, where all you have to worry about is making the knee stable. With a knee dislocation, you have to worry about the loss of function in the injured knee for the rest of the patient’s life.”

ACL tear recoveries take six to nine months. Tehrany said those who dislocate their knee can expect a recovery from nine to 12 months in best-case scenarios and, if arterial or nerve damage is ultimately found, the recovery could be as long as two years.

My hate for the viqueens is undeterred.

However, that team has been anything but stupid the last two years (you know, until they traded for The Human Ace Bandage).
