Week 5: Browns.

Week 5. @Browns. Nink is back! Cooper is gone. Jacoby is on IR.

Weather in Cleveland is in the high 50s with no chance of rain.

Notable inactives for the Pats are Marcus Cannon and Brandon Bolden.

Notable inactives for the Browns are Josh McCown.

This is a game I think we need to win. While I expect the Jets to lose to the Steelers, the Bills and Miami have winnable games (against LA and the Titans, respectively). If they both win and we lose then the division is tighter than I'd like. If we win, though, we maintain a nice cushion over everyone else.

First Quarter

The Browns get the ball to start the game. We won the toss and deferred.

The Browns start at the 27 after a kind of pop up kickoff. Three and out.

The Pats start at the 20. Brady gets an ovation, and lots of boos, as he comes out on the field. We look fine. The drive is 8 plays and Blount scores on a 2 yard TD. We had four plays of 10 or more yards. One was a Blount 13 yard run. The rest were passes. One to Jules for 10 yards and a pair to Gronk for 19 and 35. The second of those came on 3rd and 8 at the Browns 37 and set up the TD.

7-0 Pats. 10:28 left.

The Browns start at the 25. The Browns offense gets moving with some nice work by Kessler. 10 plays and it ends with an 11 yard TD catch for Hawkins. They had three plays of 10 or more yards. Hawkins led the drive with a 16 yard catch and finished it with a TD. Crowell had a 17 yard catch and run on 3rd and 6.

The Pats start at the 25. We pick right up where we left off. It's an 8 play drive that ends with a 7 yard TD to Bennett. Two plays of 10 or more. Both catches. 10 by Jules on 3rd and 7, and a 36 yard screen to James White.

14-7 Pats. 2:06 left.

The Browns start at the 12. Mingo makes a great special teams tackle. The Browns lose two yards on first down. On second down, Kessler throws backwards, but his guy doesn't catch it. The ball is live and it goes out of the endzone for a safety. Kessler hurt on the play, as he was pressured by Hightower which is why he threw the ball.

16-7 Pats. 1:20 left.

The Pats start at the 36 after the free kick. We run three short plays to end the first. We'll start the second with 1st and 10 at the 47.

Kessler has gone to the locker room. If he can't play, Charlie Whitehurst will be in for the Browns.

Second quarter.

We continue to work the ball. 5 plays after the quarter begins and then Bennett scores with a 5 yard catch. The key play was a 43 yard play action pass to Hogan.

23-7 Pats. 12:10 left.

The Browns start at the 25. Kessler is having his chest looked at. Pryor and Whitehurst both played QB this drive. 6 plays and a punt. Whitehurst did convert a 3rd and 10 with an 11 yard pass to Barnidge. That's all they did well on the drive.

Pryor played the first two plays while the Browns moved the headset thing into Whitehurst's helmet.

The Pats start at the 27. Both a good and bad drive. 7 plays with the key play being a 63 yard Brady to Hogan play. Hogan's head hit the turf on the tackle and he was hurt. However, we end turning the ball over on down. Blount loses 2 yards on 4th and goal inside the one.

The Browns start at the 2. 5 plays and a punt.

The Pats start at the 37. We three and out. Two drops and a high snap kill the drive.

The Browns start at the 20. Three and out.

The Pats start at the 38. 7 play drive. All underneath stuff to work the clock. It ends with a 50 yard FG that missed.

Browns get the ball at the 40 with 12 seconds left in the half. They have a 14 yard catch by Johnson, and then an incomplete Hail Mary to end the half.

Third Quarter

Kessler has been ruled out.

The Pats start at the 25. The drive is a 9 play drive. It's mostly dink and dunk. There were two long plays. Gronk had a 12 yard catch on 3rd and 8. Bennett capped the drive with a 37 yard TD pass.

30-7 Pats. 12:24 left.

The Browns start at the 24. The Browns get a drive going but it doesn't end well. They stall at first and complete an 11 yard pass to Pryor for a first. They stall again and once more Pryor bails them out with a 15 yard catch. But, a sack gives them a 3rd and 21. Whitehursts' pass goes off Johnson's hands and Chung picks it off.

The Pats start at the 34. Three and out.

The Browns start at the 20. Three and out.

The Pats start at the 25. 6 plays and a punt.

The Browns start at the 20. The Browns end the quarter driving. They have been fueled by a 24 yard catch by Hawkins and a 31 yard catch by Barnidge.

Fourth Quarter.

The Browns start with a first and 10 on the Pats 12. They convert three plays in with a 17 yard TD catch by Hamlett. They go for two and fail.

30-13 Pats. 14:05 left. We have a nice drive. 12 plays. Again, mostly dink and dunk and Blount was ineffective. But there were three plays of 10 or more yards. One was a Brady scramble and two were catches. Bennett for 13 and Gronk for 37. We ended the drive with a 31 yard FG. 33-13. 7:42 left.

The Browns start at the 16. Three and out.

The Pats start at the 37 with 6:02 left. Jimmy G comes in. Three and out. The Browns use a timeout.

The Browns start at the 14 with 5:06 left. You have to feel for the Browns. Whitehurst his two passes. The first for 20 to Barnidge and the second for 9 to Pyror. Crowell runs for 2 and the first down.

On the next play, Whitehurst drops back ecapes a sack, then escapes a second sack. He throws the ball away as he gets hit and he goes down awkwardly. He might have hyper extended his keee. Pryor is in at QB.

Three plays later that turn the ball over on downs. We should have been called for DPI on 4th down giving them the ball inside the 20.

The Pats start at the 47 with 3:35 left. We keep the ball on the ground and punt.

The Browns get the ball at the 25 with 31 seconds left and no timeouts. They kneel to end it.
