Week 12: NY Jets

This week we are in New Jersey for the Jets. We play them twice in the last six weeks. We go in wth Brady and Gronk banged up. If it were up to me, I'd sit them both. Let Jimmy play this week and rest Brady for more important games against the Ravens and Broncos in December.

The weather today is clear and in the 40s.

Key inactives for us are LaAdrian Waddle and Matthew Slater.

Key inactives for the Jets are Nick Mangold.

A win today is important. We need to make sure we keep pace with Oakland, and KC and Denver. We know one of those three will lose as KC and Denver play today. A win keeps us in the #1 seed, a loss opens the door for Oakland to steal that place.

First Quarter:

Jets win the toss and defer.

The Pats start at the 20 after a return by Danny.
1st and 10: Fast screen to White is high and incomplete.
2nd and 10: Brady to Marty, low, incomplete.
3rd and 10: Brady on a screen to Lewis. Lewis gets 10, barely.
Pats take timeout #1 with 13:56 left. During the timeout, the Jets challenge the spot on Lewis' catch. After review, the call on the field is reversed. The ball is moved back 1 yard. We punt.

The challenge does not shock me. I thought Lewis was short live. But, it does that show that the Jets replay staff is slow. They don't challenge after the play, they don't challenge while we are getting ready to run the next play, they challenge at the very end of the timeout.

The Jets start at the 26 with 13:43 left. Jordan RIchards of the Pats hurt on the play.
1st and 10: Fitz to Marshall for 13.
1st and 10: Forte up the middle for 3.
2nd and 7: Forte up the middle for 3.
3rd and 4: Fitz deep to Marshall for 20.

2nd and 8: Fitz missed Sefarion-Jenkins by about a mile. He'll be SJ from now on.

The Pats start at the 25 after a touchback.
1st and 10: Blount goes right, finds nothing, goes back left like Shady does in Buffalo and gets 11. Great run!
1st and 10: Play action to Devlin, incomplete.
2nd and 10: Lewis off tackle for 3.
3rd and 7: Brady deep to Gronk, misses him by a step at the Jets 13. Incomplete.
4th and 7: Punt.

The punt hits Buster Skrine, but the Jets fall on the live ball at the 13. 8:48 left. Three and out.

The Pats start at the 34 with 6:54 left.
1st and 10: Play action to Jules, no gain.
2nd and 10: Brady to Jules, 10
1st and 10: Blount to the left for 3.
2nd and 7: Play action, throw away.
3rd and 7: Brady deep to Gronk, drop. Stop going deep on 3rd down! Also, a hold should have been called.

The Jets get the ball at the 21. 4:42 left. The refs pick up a flag against us for a hit after the fair catch. IMO, it's a make up call for missing the hold on Gronk.
1st and 10: Fitz to SJ. Ugly, bobbled catch, but he gets 9.
2nd and 1: FItz deep to Enunwa. Malcolm misses knocking it down by an inch. 40 yards.
1st and 10: Fitz throw away towards Powell.
2nd and 10: Forte gets 1 on a slow run to the left.
3rd and 9: Fitz to Marshall for 11.

Rant time: Twice Marshall has 10+ yard catches when we fake a blitz then send 2 or 3, and drop 8 or 9. This is something that our DC, Matt Patricia has been doing for weeks. It has failed every time! He needs to stop it!

The Jets start with a second and goal from just outside the 1 yard line.
Second and goal: Fast pass to Marshall for the TD. Malcolm had good coverage but it was a perfect throw.

Gronk to the locker room and is questionable to return with a back injury.

The Pats start at the 25.
1st and 10: Brady to Marty for 11.
1st and 10: Fast screen to Marty for 5.
2nd and 5: Brady to Jules, the throw was off.
Jets take timeout #2 with 13:34 left.
3rd and 5: Brady to Mitchell for 6. Great catch!
1st and 10: Fast pass to Hogan gets 8.
2nd and 2: Blount up the middle for 5.
1st and 10: Brady lateral to Hogan, Hogan threw deep to Mitchell. Mitchell drops it at the 5, but PI is called on Roberts. First and goal!
First and goal (8): Brady throw away towards White.
2nd and goal (8): Lewis loses 2 up the middle. Richardson with the play.
3rd and goal (10): Brady throw away.
4th and goal: (10): 28 yard FG is good.

Jets 10-3. 10:45 left. At least we scored. But, we are throwing too much, and that gives control of the game to the Jets front four.

1st and 10: Forte up the middle for 1.
2nd and 9: Fitz rolls out to the right, throws, and finds Anderson near the 50. However, Butler punches the ball out and then he recovers the fumble!

The Pats start at the 50 with 9:46 left.
1st and 10: Brady to Jules for 18.
1st and 10: Blount goes right for no gain.
2nd and 10: Screen to Marty, he breaks a tackle and gets 5. Malden, of the Jets, hurt himself trying for a cheap shot at Marty's knees.
3rd and 5: Brady to Jules for 6.
1st and 10: Lewis up the middle for 15!
1st and goal (5): Lewis up the middle for 1.
2nd and goal (4): Brady drops the snap, picks up up, throws to Mitchell. Mitchell bobbles the ball but makes the catch for the TD! Revis had the coverage.

10-10! 6:29 left. Mauldin is questionable to return with an ankle injury.

2nd and 5: Forte up the middle for 4.
3rd and 1: Branch jumps offsides.

2nd and 15: Fitz overthrows Marshall.
3rd and 15: Fitz dumps it off to Powell for 6.

1st and 10: Marty on a jet sweep for 4. Marty hurt on the play.

An update from the studio told us that David Carr, QB of the Raiders, dislocated a finger on his throwing hand. That can have an impact on a lot of teams.
