Bengals Burfict weighs in on Steelers coach Joey Porter’s arrest

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict expresses his feelings about a call on the field during their 18-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC wild card playoff game Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. NICK GRAHAM/STAFF

There will not be any playoff victories for the Bengals this year, but at least they can enjoy a little schadenfreude.

Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict seemed to take some pleasure in learning Steelers coach Joey Porter was arrested over the weekend after Pittsburgh beat Miami in a wild card game.

“Isn’t he a coach, LOL” Burfict wrote on his protected Twitter page.

Porter has history with the Bengals, starting with his time as a Steelers player and continuing last postseason when he was on the field and drew a crippling 15-yard penalty on Adam “Pacman” Jones that set up an easy game-winning field goal.

According to the Associated Press, Porter was charged early Monday with assaulting a doorman at a bar and a police officer who intervened.

Steelers put Joey Porter on leave after arrest
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 9, 2017, 3:47 PM EST

Steelers outside linebackers coach Joey Porter has been placed on leave following his Sunday arrest, which came just hours after the team’s playoff win against the Dolphins.

“We are continuing to gather information concerning Sunday night’s incident involving Joey Porter,” Steelers G.M. Kevin Colbert said in a statement. “We have been and will continue to be in communication with the NFL as is required by the Personal Conduct Policy. Pending further review, Joey Porter has been placed on leave. At this time, we will move forward with our preparations for the Divisional Round playoff game at Kansas City.”

Porter was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after a restaurant he was visiting called police and complained of an unruly customer who was refusing to leave.

Known as something of a hothead during his playing days, the 39-year-old Porter was a four-time All-Pro and a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s and is in his third season as a Steelers assistant.

So yeah, the night of the long knives continues into the morning in Cleveland. Or if you don't like the dated reference how about The Purge: Anarchy?

The Browns let go of four defensive assistants and their O-line coach.

Were those all Hue hires, or leftovers he kept on?

Not sure about the Oline coach but all four of the defensive assistants let go were hired last year after Hue picked Horton to be his defensive coordinator. DB coach Louis Cioffi is probably the most well known. They also lost another defensive coach, Pep Hamilton, when he went to U of Michigan earlier this week instead of waiting around to get the axe.

Myself, I think a certain amount of turnover is normal after a new head coach is hired. For example, for years Marvin Lewis changed defensive coordinators more often than he changed his socks, but I remind myself he never hired new coaches who changed schemes. By hiring Gregg Williams 1-year after picking Horton Hue has guaranteed the Browns will undergo massive changes on their coaching staff as well as on the roster.

Probably isn't much of a stretch to wonder if Hue was under intense pressure to promise a quick fix and responded by tossing his staff under the bus.

Cioffi was a coach here for a long time. He worked with Coyle and focused on the safeties.

LOL at Leveon Bell claiming he's changing the running back position at the NFL level. Clearly he has never heard of Barry Sanders Marshall Faulk or LaDainian Tomlinson .

how arrogant do you have to be to say that about yourself in the first place?

Well look at that the Steelers have reinstated Joey Porter and are not going to punish him

I'm a little bit surprised the Steelers haven't apologized to him for making him stay away from the team for a few days.

And the arresting officer went on a radio show to pretty much call shenanigans on the DA dropping charges.
