This should make the Simms haters very happy: CBS has hired Tony Romo as their lead NFL analyst. Phil Simms is out as the top color guy. It is as yet unclear if Simms will be staying at CBS in some capacity or if his tenure has come to an end.

I don't get why you hire someone to be your number color analyst without actually seeing how well he performs doing the job. I'm sure CBS liked what they saw if he auditioned for them, but I'd still be very nervous without seeing him do it for at least a year.

I had the exact same thought. Who knows if Romo has the chops to be a number one color guy? Personally, I don't see it.
