Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green‘s return to the lineup after missing three games with a toe injury was a brief one.

Green re-injured the toe in the second quarter of the game and needed a cart to get to the locker room. Green could be seen in tears as he made his way off the field and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said that the wideout needs to consider the long view when figuring out if he’ll return to a 5-7 team.

“I hope he can get better,” Kirkpatrick said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com. “I hope we can figure out a way. But at the end of the day, I feel like his safety is first. I feel like he’s a guy we’re invested in, and I heard what he said the other day, but man, we’re going to need him for the future.

Head coach Marvin Lewis offered no update about Green’s outlook after the game. Green rejected the idea of shutting things down for the year last week, but the team’s record and the fact that only four games remain on the schedule should factor into any decisions about how to move forward.

it would be stupid not to shut him down at this point.

Yep. That team we saw yesterday isn't going to threaten anyone. Might as well start rehab/surgery going and get that top 10 draft pick. If they lose to the Raiders (certainly possible), they might be able to sneak into the top 5. Quite a few good defensive lineman this year.

  4. We need linebackers and OTs more.

It's hard for me to argue about what we need most until Marvin Lewis and Hue Jackson are sent into orbit around Pluto.

Bengals' WR A.J. Green is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the torn ligaments in his toe that will sideline him 3-4 months, but he is expected to have a full recovery and be ready for OTAs, per source.

Hate that he is hurt but glad to see he going to take his time and get it fixed and have plenty of time to heal.

Bengals receiver A.J. Green will undergo season-ending surgery on torn ligaments in his toe, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Green will need three to four months to rehab, getting him back in time for organized team activities.

Green returned from his toe injury after missing three games, but he lasted only 17 plays in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos.

A recent report suggested surgery was a possibility after Green visited Dr. Robert Anderson, a top foot specialist whose practice is in Green Bay.

Green finishes his eighth season with 46 catches for 694 yards and six touchdowns in nine games.

It’s another blow to an offense already missing quarterback Andy Dalton (thumb) and tight ends Tyler Eifert (ankle) and Tyler Kroft (foot) among others.
