Ravens, John Harbaugh agree to contract extension
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 19, 2019, 2:59 PM EST

Four weeks after saying they would come to an agreement on a new contract, the Ravens and coach John Harbaugh have done so.

Harbaugh has agreed to terms on a new deal to remain with the Ravens beyond the 2019 season, according to multiple reports.

With only one year remaining on his old contract, Harbaugh could have refused to sign anything now and bet on himself. With another trip to the playoffs next season, Harbaugh could have improved his leverage with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti — or could have shopped himself to other teams as a highly coveted free agent.

But coaches rarely do that, and it appears Harbaugh won’t either. Instead, he’ll return for 2019 on a contract that keeps him tied to the Ravens beyond 2019 as well.

JuJu Smith-Schuster says hit on Vontaze Burfict made Pittsburgh love him

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 3, 2019, 7:48 AM EST

How much do Steelers fans hate Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict? So much that Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster says an illegal hit he put on Burfict was the play Steelers fans loved most.

Smith-Schuster said in his visit to the PFT Live set on Radio Row that of all the plays he’s made as a Steeler, the one that really made Steelers fans embrace him was a helmet-to-helmet hit that gave Burfict a concussion and gave Smith-Schuster a one-game suspension.

“The biggest one of all was the Burfict hit. That one right there grabbed the whole Steeler nation. They wrapped me in their arms,” Smith-Schuster said.

Asked if that made the hit worth the money it cost him, Smith-Schuster answered, “Yes, it was.”

Those comments won’t endear Smith-Schuster to the league office, which wants players to stop celebrating hits to the head of their opponents. But Steelers fans will love it.

NFL will investigate Antonio Brown domestic incident

Posted by Mike Florio on February 6, 2019, 12:57 PM EST

Antonio Brown wasn’t arrested after a recent domestic dispute, but he could indeed face discipline from the league.

“We will look into the matter,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email.

By saying “look into,” the league means it will investigate. Which means that an investigation could result in a suspension of Brown.

As previously noted, this could complicate the effort to trade Brown, since his new team won’t know whether Brown will at some point be not available. It’s also not known how long will take for the investigation to resolve itself, given that the league often takes much more time than it should when getting to the bottom of a situation.

Brown’s lawyer has called the allegations “baseless and false,” but the NFL will have the final say under a standard of proof far lower than the criminal justice burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

    Well that explains this

"When I asked one longtime NFL personnel man last week what he would he would give the Steelers for Brown, he said maybe a sixth-round draft pick."

It'll be interesting to see if the Browns go all-in this offseason. I expect they make a run at a big time receiver and left tackle if they can. With Baker on the rookie contract, they can afford to go get some expensive vet pieces in FA.
