In a veritable clash of the titans the 49'ers meet the Broncos at Wembley Stadium. Somehow the league determined that this was a home game for the 49ers.

Cousin Sal at JKL describes it best:

Sending these two crapbag teams overseas could very well start another war with England. This is disregarding The Stamp Act times 1,000. I wouldn't blame London for sending a vat full of contaminated bangers and mash and the fat Spice girl our way to get even with us. When picking this game I'm just going to close my eyes and pretend it's an AFC team playing an NFC team on a neutral field. (24-19)

I don't think I can contradict that or add anything else. I do ask our British friends to forgive us for the upcoming assault on their retinas and IQs. And please remember, Singletary does not represent mainstream America. Most of us have moved on from the 1890's. And we usually keep our pants on in public.

Fat Spice? I don't think I am familiar with her.

I would like this overseas experiment to end though. Fat chance though. $$$ to be made, I guess.

I don't mind the international experiment but for the love of god send some decent teams once in awhile so we don't embarrass ourselves.

You are assuming they would recognize an embarrassment.

What percentage of Brits know the difference between the Bucs or the Niners? Seahawks or Eagles? Lions or Colts? Those guys don't even know what they're watching. Kinda like me trying to follow the soccer scrum. (OK, I know they don't have one, but that's how it looks to me, unless I've already fallen asleep, in which case, they might and I wouldn't know it.)

I remember some of those man-on-the-street interviews with attendees at Wembley. A few correctly identified Joe Montana as a player, but seemed clueless beyond that. The international megastar Tom Brady, whose reputation precedes him for obvious reasons, is sometimes ID as well. Let's face it, those with the cash to burn would show up for whatever sporting event was held there. Even Broncos/49ers.

Plus, they think the game is too slow, too many timeouts. I just don't see it working long term.

The in-stadium experience got so comically bad for me, I quit attending games. I cannot see the NFL catching on in the UK. Maybe Mexico would be a better place to start. They have high school football there (at least).
