TAMPA, Fla. -- Urban Meyer closed out a highly successful run at Florida that included a pair of national championships by leading the Gators back from a second-half deficit to beat Joe Paterno and Penn State 37-24 in the Outback Bowl on Saturday.

Omarius Hines and Mike Gillislee ran for touchdowns, Chas Henry kicked three second-half field goals, and Ahmad Black scored on an 80-yard interception return to help Florida (8-5) send Meyer out on a winning note.

The 46-year-old coach resigned last month because of health concerns and to spend more time with his family.

In the week leading up to the game, the legendary Paterno repeatedly shrugged off rumors that the Outback Bowl could be the 84-year-old's last for Penn State (7-6).

This game has been a bit sloppy, but still good New Years Day TV.

I hate myself for saying this, but Paterno looks a bit like my GRandfather towards the end.

Sorry, but no way the NIttany Lions are part of the big bowl games until the get a coach who knows what decade it is.

Somehow he has them ranked and competing year in and year out though. However, to agree with you, I think a new coach would push them to the upper tier and put them in the BCS hunt more regularly.
