I still have to say that I question how good Rodgers would've been if SF had drafted him and plugged him in from day one. Remember that the Packers said they HAD to spend his entire rookie year working the Tedford out of him.
"Biggest blowout since Andy Reid vs. Skinny jeans" - Colts01
Rodgers is CURRENTLY top 3 quarterback by anyone's standards. if he started as a rookie with one of the least talented teams in the last few decades, and stayed there through the mayhem, he would be a vastly different qb today. same with alex smith. i think in a vacuum rodgers is demonstratively better...but coaches and situations can make or break your career
Dandrea I agree that Rodgers would not be in the top 3 discussion if he had come to SF but I don't think he would have inspired "We Want Carr" chants either. Overall this season Smith has improved though and he looks a lot more comfortable directing the offense. That is great to see.
Greg Cossel unloaded on poor Alex today on the radio. He seems to dislike Alex even more than I do. At least I give Alex credit for his good games.

Grant Cohn is doing a good job for a young guy. He knows and Alex Smith blog post will increase page hits 10 times. Smart marketing skills.
People on the Press Democrat blog are seriously arguing that Alex Smith is better than Tony Romo or Cam Newton.
*smh*
Love is blind.
"If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you damn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler." Jack Lambert, 1990 HoF Introduction.
I can't blame Baalke for Smith - he wasn't even here when the 49ers screwed up and drafted him instead of Rodgers.
But seriously - against the Steelers Smith was 50% for 187 yards and people are saying that Alex "led" the 49ers to a win. Honestly. I want to reach through the internet and choke them.
I swear I heard coach say after the game that Smith deserved to be in the Pro Bowl.
