He was 100 percent under 40. Rare for college kids. And still over 50 percent from long range.
    That's not inspiring.

While I'm not a fan of the pick, I thought it was telling that Callahan said up above that the Bengals were basically afraid to kick anything 52 and longer.

What stats would be acceptable to you for a college kicker?

Guy could have been 100 percent and you still wouldn’t have been happy.

Bengals make Evan McPherson just the fifth kicker taken in the top-150 over the past 15 years (and 2 of those prior 4 were by the Buccaneers)

    2006: Stephen Gostkowski (NE, 118)
    2011: Alex Henery (PHI, 120)
    2016: Roberto Aguayo (TB, 59)
    2019: Matt Gay (TB, 145) #NFLDraft

Kids got a CANNON. Congrats @McPherson_Evan on getting drafted to the Bengals. AFC North kicking is NOT easy.. the good news is, there’s somehow still no indoor practice facility in Cincy.. he’s gonna be battling all day every day. I think he’s gonna be GREAT #ForTheBrand

Darrin Simmons said he ID'd multiple teams in the fifth round that needed a kicker and felt it was necessary to take McPherson in the fifth. Simmons said it's always good to draft a kicker/punter one round higher than his draft grade.

Simmons : I always felt like you have to take a kicker one round higher than he’s ranked on your board to fend off other teams

That's true but not being very good at kicks beyond 40 yards doesn't seem great.
